Abstract: Localized catalyst activity in an SCR unit for controlling emissions from a boiler, power plant, or any facility that generates NOx-containing flue gases is monitored by one or more modules that operate on-line without disrupting the normal operation of the facility. Each module is positioned over a designated lateral area of one of the catalyst beds in the SCR unit, and supplies ammonia, urea, or other suitable reductant to the catalyst in the designated area at a rate that produces an excess of the reductant over NOx on a molar basis through the designated area. Sampling probes upstream and downstream of the designated area draw samples of the gas stream for NOx analysis, and the catalyst activity is determined from the difference in NOx levels between the two probes.

Abstract: The invention is a data network system (110) and method for forwarding a communication message intended for one device to another device. A target user of a target device (one of 102-108) configures configuration data of the target device for the system. The configuration information includes one or more forwarding lists in which each forwarding list identifies at least one next device (another one of 102-108). The system then receives (204) a communication message from an originating device (yet another one of 102-108) and retrieves (206) configuration data of the target device. Next, the system determines (208) whether the target device is available for interactive communication with the originating device based on the configuration data. If the target device is available for interactive communication with the originating device, then the system routes (210) the communication message to the target device.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for rapidly resuming the processing of client requests after a system failure event are disclosed. Accordingly, a surviving storage system, upon detecting a system failure event at a partner storage system, executes a takeover routine and conditions its system memory to reflect the state of the system memory of the failed storage system by processing client requests or commands stored in an operations log mirror. Then, the storage system converts the unused portion of the log mirror for use as an operations log, and resumes processing client requests prior to flushing any data to storage devices.

Abstract: A product badge coupled to a product, such as an information handling system, displays product information to align with a selected of plural product orientations by illuminating a first display material to present the product information in a first orientation associated with a first product orientation and a second display material to present the product information in a second orientation associated with a second product orientation. For instance, illumination by a backlight presents the product information in the first orientation by interacting with the first display material, and suspension of illumination by the backlight presents the product information in the second orientation by allowing reflective light to interact with the second display material. Selection of illumination is automatically or manually accomplished.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing multimodal communication outputs information, such as retrieved content, in a first modality. An output modality change command is generated, such as via a multimodal user input interface, or other suitable mechanism. A multimodal communication apparatus and method then reprovides the previously output information as reprovided information in a different output modality in response to receiving the output modality change command. Accordingly, a user or unit may have content delivered in one modality and redelivered in a different preferred modality or modalities. Accordingly, a user or device may request output modalities dynamically so that content can be delivered using a different user preference after the content has already been provided in a first modality.

Abstract: An efficient method and apparatus for storing and retrieving memory ranges is disclosed. A key range that is stored or to be stored is associated with a node in the tree hierarchy encompassing the entire memory address space. All previously stored ranges are listed or otherwise associated with each node, and all possible nodes that may contain ranges that overlap the key range, regardless of starting or ending locations or range length, are found. Partitions are developed in the tree structure of the available address space and the width of the key range (w), the widths of the partitions (d), and the range of offsets in the starting location of the key range with respect to a partition (o) are used to develop a formula that finds a partition suitable for storing the key range. Hashing and dynamic tree building may be used.

Abstract: An improved apparatus, method and system are provided for medical liquid administration, including in particular liquid medication and/or flush solution infusions. The inventive apparatus includes a barrel, a plunger slidably disposed within the barrel and extending from a distal end thereof, and at least one medical liquid delivery line having a proximal end fixedly positioned relative to the barrel, wherein the medical delivery line is fluidly interconnectable proximal to the plunger and extends along at least a portion of the barrel and in a direction distally away from the distal end thereof. To accommodate the administration of both a liquid medication and flush solution, two coincidentally-positioned medical liquid delivery lines may be included, each of which may extend through the plunger to the valve. The valve may be positionable to accommodate the selective administration of a desired medical liquid through an interconnected catheter interconnection line.

Abstract: A system and method for stationary semantic zooming. Stationary semantic zooming allows selected non-spatial rendering attributes, such as level of detail, to be varied according to other specified non-spatial rendering attributes. Stationary semantic zooming allows low importance objects to be rendered with a lower level of detail than higher importance objects. A system and method for displaying network status and realty information using stationary semantic zooming are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method for monitoring a plurality of objects, involving configuring a sensor for a first object of the plurality of objects, wherein the sensor monitors an environment of the first object, attaching the sensor to the first object, associating each of the plurality of objects together using a pre-defined stimulus to obtain an associated set of objects, and communicating a notification message when a change in activity of the environment of the first object is detected by the sensor.

Abstract: A first fluid connector is provided for selective interconnection to and fluid transfer with a second fluid connector. The first connector comprises a fluid passageway, an internal member and an outer collar supportably disposed about the internal member for selective advancement and retraction relative thereto. At least a portion of the fluid passageway may extend through the internal member. The outer collar may be selectively retracted to facilitate cleaning of the internal member. In some embodiments, the outer collar and internal member may be disposed so that a distal portion of the internal member is substantially flush with or a distal portion of internal member projects beyond a distal end of the outer collar when the outer collar is in a retracted position relative thereto. To facilitate cleaning, a distal end or distal portion of the internal member may be substantially closed when the first and second connectors are disconnected.

Abstract: A method of medical modeling comprising the steps of identifying a plurality of medical facilities each having an MRI diagnostic system, providing a 3D printer at each of the identified medical facilities, conducting an MRI study at one of the identified medical facilities, transmitting MRI data comprising the MRI study from said one of the identified medical facilities to a processing compatible format at the processing center, transmitting the processed MRI data from a processing center to a 3D printer located on the premises of said one of the identified medical facilities, and utilizing the 3D printer to prepare a 3D model of the MRI study.

Abstract: An amplifier for electric guitar including a plurality of foot switch selectable preamplifier channels which can be set to provide differing sonic characteristics, and also including a power amplifier section for driving a loudspeaker that can be switched between at least two different power or performance capabilities. User operable switching dedicated to at least one of the preamplifier channels is provided to select preferred power amplifier parameters in conjunction with differing channel voicings. Thus, differing preferred power amplifier characteristics may be pre-set and assigned to individual preamplifier channels and called up automatically in conjunction with the remote channel selection.

Abstract: A system, method, apparatus and product for designing, on a display device, a geometric shape is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of displaying an initial set of similarly structured model exemplars on a display device, selecting a chosen set of models from the initial set of similarly structured model exemplars to apply to a model mix, mixing the set of models consisting of a first portion and a second portion to form a currently displayed shape, providing on the display device at least one selectable feature for manipulating the currently displayed shape, and applying a constraint of the selectable feature to the displayed shape to update both the first portion and the second portion of the currently displayed shape into a new geometric shape design. In a particular implementation, the first portion of the geometric shape is an automobile and the second portion is a standardized human occupant representation.

Abstract: A system and method for designing, on a display device, a new design. The method includes receiving a plurality of at least two predefined three dimensional models defined as parameters in a common coordinate system, extracting patterns and relationships from the predefined models and capturing the patterns and relationships in a processor memory to form a statistical model providing plural, selectable vehicle shapes, and generating a new design based on a selectable shape of the statistical model. From the three dimensional model a two dimensional slice is extracted and manipulated by morphing and accordingly changing the three dimensional model.

The method of a vehicle design system is for analyzing constraints on parameters of a vehicle model, the vehicle design system including a catalog of exemplars from which a user may select exemplar input and at least one engineering criteria having a plurality of criteria values from which a user may select criteria values. The method includes providing a morphable vehicle model generated from exemplar input, selecting a first criteria, evaluating the morphable model with respect to the first criteria to determine the value, selecting a new target criteria value from the plurality of criteria values, and updating the morphable model shape to achieve this value.

Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus for preparing geometric models for use in a design tool are disclosed. The method comprises generating a first base shape model, separating the first base model into components, and characterizing the components. Further, the method provides for comparing the second base model, similarly prepared and characterized, to the first, and adjusting the features used to characterize the base model components until the two objects can be placed in correspondence. The system comprises a processor capable of processing instructions for generating base shape models wherein the processor is capable of processing instructions for separating a base model into components and further capable of processing instructions for characterizing base model components. Accordingly, the method may provide for defining a geometric model template by adjusting a base model to match a succession of input models.
