  • Patent number: 9554360
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communication devices and methods configured to operate with multiple communication protocols in tune-away operations. Some aspects of the present disclosure may improve the legacy tune-away operations at an access terminal. An access terminal establishes a call utilizing a first communication protocol, tunes away from the call to receive cell signaling utilizing a second communication protocol, and tunes back to the call utilizing the first communication protocol. Following the tuning back, during a first predetermined number of subframes and if the size of a reverse link (RL) packet is smaller than a first packet size and larger than a second packet size, the access terminal forces the RL packet to be a low latency (LoLat) packet.

  • Publication number: 20170013606
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide wireless communication devices and methods configured to operate with multiple active connections. A user equipment establishes a first active connection associated with a first subscription. The user equipment also establishes a second active connection, simultaneous to the first active connection, associated with a second subscription. The user equipment provides modem information corresponding to connection qualities of the first active connection and second active connection, to an operating system of the user equipment. Furthermore, the user equipment mitigates contention between the first active connection and second active connection by degrading at least one of the first active connection or second active connection in accordance with a decision given by the operating system based on the modem information.

  • Patent number: 9521643
Abstract: Access terminals are adapted to communicate with registration servers to enable a registration server to perform timer-based registrations on behalf of an access terminal. The access terminal can cease performing such timer-based registrations as long as the registration server performs the registrations, and may power down until event data is available for transmission or reception. When a registration server performs timer-based registrations on behalf of an access terminal, the registration server can periodically communicate with a network entity to conduct the timer-based registrations for the access terminal. The network entity can receive a timer-based registration message from a registrations server for registering an access terminal. In response to such a message, the network entity can register the access terminal. Sensors and controllers may be used with some embodiments to collect and analyze data and for potentially taking action.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for signaling adjustments include identifying, by a user equipment (UE), a change in a reachability state of the UE based at least in part on one or more channel metrics determined by a modem in the UE. Further, the methods and apparatus include adjusting a transmission of connectivity signals (e.g., keep-alive signals) to a server from an application on the UE, the adjusting being based at least in part on an indication of the change in the reachability state provided to the application via an interface in communication with the modem (e.g., modem application programming interface or API). Additionally, the methods and apparatus can include transmitting an indication of the change in the reachability state to the server. Moreover, the methods and apparatus may accommodate signaling adjustments for one or more applications on the UE and one or more servers in a wireless communication system.

  • Publication number: 20160267214
Abstract: Clock tree design methods for ultra-wide voltage range circuits are disclosed. In one aspect, place and route software creates an integrated circuit (IC) in an optimal configuration at a first voltage condition. A first clock tree is created as part of the place and route process. Clock skew for the first clock tree is evaluated and minimized through insertion of bypassable delay elements. The delay elements are then removed from the wiring routing diagram. A second voltage condition is identified, and clock tree generation software is allowed to optimize the wiring routing diagram for the second voltage condition. The second clock tree generation software may insert more bypassable delay elements into the wiring routing diagram that allow clock skew optimization at the second voltage condition. The initial bypassable delay elements are then reinserted into the wiring routing diagram and a finished IC is established.

  • Publication number: 20160270018
Abstract: Various aspects are provided for low-latency wireless local area networks (WLANs). An access point (AP) may transmit a downlink pilot signal for synchronization of the AP with one or more wireless stations. The AP may receive an uplink control block synchronized with the downlink pilot signal including a reservation for uplink transmission from a first wireless station of the one or more wireless stations. The reservation may include an uplink pilot signal and a modulated pilot signal and indicate that the first wireless station has traffic for uplink transmission to the AP. The AP may schedule the first wireless station for uplink transmission during a traffic block after the uplink control block. The AP may estimate a wireless channel to the first wireless station based on the pilot signal and the modulated pilot signal. Other low-latency aspects apply to WLANs in which the AP and associated wireless stations are synchronized.

  • Publication number: 20160246608
Abstract: Multi-step programming of heat-sensitive non-volatile memory (NVM) in processor-based systems, and related methods and systems are disclosed. To avoid relying on programmed instructions stored in heat-sensitive NVM during fabrication, wherein the programmed instructions can become corrupted during thermal packaging processes, the NVM is programmed in a multi-step programming process. In a first programming step, a boot loader comprising programming instructions is loaded into the NVM. The boot loader may be loaded into the NVM after the thermal processes during packaging are completed to avoid risking data corruption in the boot loader. Thereafter, the programmed image can be loaded quickly into a NV program memory over the peripheral interface using the boot loader to save programming time and associated costs, as opposed to loading the programmed image using lower transfer rate programming techniques. The processor can execute the program instructions to carry out tasks in the processor-based system.

  • Patent number: 9407563
Abstract: Various apparatuses and methods for transmitting uplink data of an application at a user equipment are provided. In one aspect of the disclosure, uplink data of an application at a user equipment (UE) is transmitted to a network. A first amount of the uplink data expected to be buffered at a radio link control (RLC) layer is determined based on a latency of the application. A second amount of the uplink data available for transmission at the RLC layer is determined based on information provided by a modem of the UE. A data rate of the application is dynamically adjusted based on a difference between the first amount and second amount of the uplink data. In another aspect of the disclosure, an amount of the application data buffered at the RLC layer is maintained to be greater than a predetermined threshold that sets a Happy bit at an unhappy setting.

  • Patent number: 9367113
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for managing power consumption in a modem of a mobile device. A receive power associated with a receiver of the modem may be measured during a scheduled power-up of the modem associated with checking for paging messages. A power consumption metric associated with transmitting a pending wireless data transaction at a transmitter of the modem may then be estimated based on the measured receive power associated with the receiver. A determination of whether to transmit the pending wireless data transaction at a first time may then be made based at least in part on the estimated power consumption metric.
