  • Publication number: 20060093356
Abstract: A point-to-multipoint communications network includes an optical line terminal (OLT) and a number of optical network terminals (ONTS) which each detect and remove rogue ONTs from the network. The OLT monitors transmission errors to detect the presence of a rogue ONT, and can determine the identity of the rogue. Each ONT monitors its own upstream data packets to detect the presence of a rogue, and turns itself off when a rogue is detected.

  • Publication number: 20050165449
Abstract: The present invention is a device and system for manipulating a surgical tool at an intended location, e.g., a confined or inaccessible space, which includes a surgical anchor having at least one opening, wherein the opening provides a catch for a pin; and at least one anchor point to position and orient a surgical tool inside a human body. The apparatus and system of the present invention allows for the use of multiple intra-abdominal surgical tools inserted through a single incision.

  • Publication number: 20030186865
Abstract: This invention relates to human medicine, and particularly with a pharmaceutical combination made up with Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) and a Growth Hormone secretagogue hexapeptide (GHRP); being useful to prevent tissue damages due to blood flow suppression as to enhance tissue repair following ischaemic damages. The aforementioned combination may be applied as a single pharmaceutical composition. Alternatively, an individual may also receive both EGF and GHRP in a separate manner but within a single therapeutic regime to enhance cellular survival when organs are subjected to blood flow deprivation for a critical period of time. This combination attenuates reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation and its associated cytotoxicity. It is useful to promote cellular survival when tissues or organs are exposed to prolonged ischaemic periods.

  • Patent number: 6413759
Abstract: The present invention is related to the field of biotechnology and genetic engineering techniques, particularly to a method for obtaining mutants obtain from streptokinase, to the molecules obtained from this method, as well as the expression vectors and microorganisms for recombinant obtaining. The object of the present invention is to achieve streptokinase mutants from modifications of skc-2 gene coding for streptokinase SKC-2 (Heberkinase®), such that the obtained mutants conserve their capacity for plasminogen activator complex formation having reduced antigenicity, that could constitute preferred alternatives to native streptokinase for thrombolytic therapy. The molecules obtained from present invention can be used in the treatment of disorders as myocardial infarct, pulmonary thromboembolism, surgical complications and other cases of thrombosis.

  • Patent number: 5617711
Abstract: A method of producing a container of banana clusters is provided wherein a flexible inner container is inserted into an outer container prior to placing the banana clusters into the outer container, placing a first row of banana clusters in the inner container atop the interior bottom, placing a second row of banana clusters in the inner container such that a portion of the second row is positioned atop a portion of the first row, providing a tunnel pad having a width at least as great as the length of the sidewalls of the outer container and a length greater than the length of the endwalls of the outer container and positioning a portion of the tunnel pad atop and in contact with a portion of the banana clusters of the first and second rows, and placing a third and fourth row of banana clusters in the inner container atop a portion of and in contact with a portion of the tunnel pad. A method of transferring a load of bananas from the outer container to another outer container is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5556658
Abstract: A container system for the shipping and storing of product such as bananas, comprising: (a) a substantially rigid outer container having at least one ventilation opening; (b) a closable inner container positioned within the outer container receiving the product, the inner container having a bottom portion and a top portion; and (c) means attached to the top portion of the inner container for opening the inner container so as to provide increased ventilation to the product. The inner container preferably comprises a flexible bag having a sealed bottom as its bottom portion, an open top adjacent the top portion, and a perforation extending about at least a portion of the bag, so that the opening means opens the bag by severing the bag at the perforation. The opening means may comprise a cord attached to the top portion of the bag. A method of packing, shipping and storing product utilizing this container is provided.
