The method includes determining a paging occasion index of a paging occasion based at least in part on the identifier of the UE and the paging frame and selecting the paging occasion from the set of paging occasions based at least in part on the paging occasion index of the paging occasion. The method includes monitoring the selected paging occasion for a paging of a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) carrying a downlink control information (DCI).

The transceiver receives paging Downlink Control Information (“DCI”) with a cyclic redundancy check (“CRC”) scrambled by a Paging Radio Network Temporary Identifier (“P-RNTI”), where the paging DCI schedules a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (“PDSCH”) transmission. The transceiver receives a paging message in the PDSCH transmission. The processor identifies a paging extension for the UE in the paging DCI and/or the paging message.
