  • Publication number: 20130346915
Abstract: Embodiments relate to enabling wrap-around of a pannable surface to allow a user to perceive a logical break and to allow some user control over how/when a wrap-around occurs. When a user pans to an edge of a pannable surface (“near” edge), the panning, in some embodiments, is automatically halted or impeded. The user can over-pan the “near” edge, and if a condition is met, then the “distant” edge pans into view, thus effectuating a wrap-around. The condition may be, for example, a threshold distance, speed, inertia, etc. Some embodiments provide a hint or visual “peek” of the “distant” edge as the “near” edge is being over-panned. Some embodiments snap the “near” edge back if the over-pan is ended before the condition is met. The condition may be checked repeatedly during over-panning or it may be checked when the over-pan is terminated by the user.

  • Patent number: 8176641
Abstract: A plastic cutlery item molded from a plastic material, such as polystyrene, having a metallic coating that imparts to this cutlery item the appearance of metal cutlery or silverware. In one embodiment the plastic cutlery or tableware items are molded using injection molding techniques, and subjected to a vacuum metallizing process in an individualized non-contiguous manner, where a thin metallic layer is deposited on at least one of their surfaces. The resultant items simulate the appearance of metal cutlery or tableware. In one embodiment of the invention the plastic cutlery or tableware articles are molded from a clear polystyrene resin and are coated with a thin stainless steel layer through vacuum sputtering deposition on only one of the sides. The abrasion resistance of the metallic coating can be enhanced by subjecting the articles to a post-metallizing holding period or by applying a clear protective overcoat.

  • Patent number: 8027473
Abstract: Mechanisms for providing a subscriber-side interface with a passive optical network are described herein. An optical network termination (ONT) having an integrated broadband passive optical network processor is utilized to receive downstream data from an optical line termination (OLT) via a passive optical network and provide the contents of the downstream data to one or more subscriber devices via one or more data interfaces. Similarly, the ONT is adapted to receive and transmit upstream data from the one or more subscriber devices to the OLT via the passive optical network. The ONT preferably implements one or more encryption/decryption mechanisms, such as the digital encryption standard (DES), to provide data protection in addition to, or in place of, data churning provided for by the ITU G.983 recommendations.

The ONT preferably implements one or burst buffers for buffering upstream and/or downstream data. The ONT can be adapted to notify the OLT of the status of the burst buffer, thereby allowing the OLT to modify the bandwidth allocations.

  • Publication number: 20080120693
Abstract: This invention is directed to provide a method for enabling an administrator to monitor and selectively limit the computer functions available to a user. The method is carried out on a personal computer by an administrator, and administrator decisions can be enforced on other personal computers in a local network. The invention enables an administrator to restrict a user's logon hours, logon duration, access to computer functions, and access to applications based on content rating. In addition, the administrator may temporarily restrict or extend normally allowed access privileges. The invention also allows for the monitoring, auditing, and reporting of a user's computer function usage to an administrator.
