  • Publication number: 20030158533
Abstract: A tampon showing improved leakage protection through improved expansion characteristics is disclosed. The tampons disclosed demonstrate these improved expansion characteristics particularly in the width dimension without introducing new drawbacks. Preferred tampons are described which are compressed to an initial size comparable to current tampons, but which expand to a width exceeding that achieved by current tampons. Such increased expansion is preferably accomplished without an increase in the total absorbency of the tampon. Tampons of various absorbencies are disclosed having increased total expansion in the width direction compared to current tampons. Additionally, tampons of various absorbencies which expand to a greater degree in the width direction under pressure are also disclosed. Tampons of various absorbencies which expand at a rate exceeding that achieved previously are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20030158367
Abstract: Acrylate, or methacrylate, or allylic, functionalized polyfluorooxetanes are disclosed for use in radiation curable coating compositions. These acrylate, or methacrylate, or allylic, functionalized polymers provide improvements in wetting and surface properties that have previously been provided by migratory chemicals such as waxes and oils. The partially or fully fluorinated side groups of the fluorooxetanes are believed to be disproportionately present at the interfaces between the coating and the substrate and between the coating and the atmosphere.

  • Publication number: 20030159153
Abstract: An auxiliary display device is used in conjunction with a cable television (CATV) system to process television content metadata extracted from a transport stream received by a set-top box (STB) and sent to the auxiliary display device. Text and/or images defined by the metadata are presented on a display of the auxiliary display device adjacent to a predefined image (e.g., an advertisement, supplemental data) retrieved from a memory of the auxiliary display device. The predefined image is presented in an area of the display of the auxiliary display device that is designated by the metadata as being reserved for displaying a broadcast television channel video image. The predefined image can be changed on a periodic basis, or in response to the auxiliary display device receiving new metadata from the STB.

  • Patent number: 6608697
Abstract: A preflight system has a printer profile database containing a list of problem document elements and a list of universal resource locator addresses. Each of the universal resource locator addresses is associated with at least one of the problem document elements. The preflight system also has an analyzer that compares document elements from a print file submitted by a print buyer with the problem document elements, in order to identify those document elements occurring in the print file that may cause a problem during printing. The analyzer then compiles a list of the universal resource locator addresses associated with problem document elements found in the print file.

  • Patent number: 6606795
Abstract: A two-position, quick-change hacksaw consists of a back member, handle structure adjacent a rearward end portion of the back member, and a swing arm adjacent the forward end. The free end of the swing arm and the forward end portion of the back member have coplanar blade-engaging elements thereon which serve to engage the forward end of the blade and which are commonly disposed on an arc that circumscribes a third coplanar blade-engaging element disposed on a coupling block of a tensioning mechanism for mounting the rearward end of the blade. Two coplanar sets of transversely paired engagement elements enable mounting of the blade both in a plane parallel to a medial plane of the frame and also in a plane disposed at a substantial angle thereto. In one configuration, with the swing arm in its inoperative position, the saw is adapted for cutting within a relatively confined space; with the swing arm in its operative position the saw is configured for cutting within a relatively unconfined space.

  • Patent number: 6607371
Abstract: Expansible chamber apparatus for a positive displacement, high volume, low friction, reversible rotary pump for gases and/or liquids. Two or more chambers are provided, defined in part by one or more small abutments that move radially in a slot to switch or redirect fluid flow with minimal loss of fluid mechanical energy. A complementary pair of chambers, formed by a single groove, is radially divided by a concentric land ring and is longitudinally segmented by the abutment, which seals the chambers against reverse leakage. The abutment is slightly smaller in radial dimension than the groove and is floated to avoid hard contact with the inner and outer land ring surfaces of the groove by a balancing of the Bernoulli effects that develop. The apparatus can also be operated as a fluid compressor, as a motor and in other applications, in single cycle or multiple cycle operation. The pump provides substantially non-pulsating fluid flow in one or more stages.
