  • Patent number: 7716661
Abstract: A method and system for updating an OS of an embedded device. The embedded device provides its current OS version information to a mobile operation network via a SMS message. The embedded device can provide its current OS version information to a mobile operation network in response to a request from a mobile operator network that has implemented the SyncML specifications promulgated by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). The mobile operator network interacts with the datacenter to provide the embedded devices's current OS version and get the address of the image update. The mobile operator service sends the address to the embedded device via another SMS message. The embedded device downloads the image update using the RF link via a global packet radio service (GPRS) connection.

  • Patent number: 7464331
Abstract: A mechanism for validating a message, such as an XML message or other hierarchically-organized content. A validation engine walks through the tree represented by the message preferably in depth-first traversal order. Upon encountering each node in the tree, the validation engine consults a validation table to identify a delegate that is to be invoked. The validation engine then invokes the delegate identified for that node, and calls itself recursively on the subtrees of the current node. After the subtrees have been processed, the validation engine again consults the validation table to identify a post-handler for the current node, and then invokes the post-handler. An entry in the validation table may be flagged as “exclusive” to prevent traversal of subtrees of the node corresponding to that entry. Additionally, there may be both global and local validation tables, where the global table is used when a node has no entry in the local table.

  • Publication number: 20070147463
Abstract: Apparatus and method are provided for damping the induced fluid flow, particularly in the region of the base plate, in an electrically conductive material that is heated and melted in a cold crucible induction furnace. Damping is accomplished by establishing a dc magnetic field such that flow of the electrically conductive liquid metal in that dc magnetic field would induce eddy currents in the liquid metal which would generate forces that tend to oppose the flow. The dc magnetic field may be established by dc current flow in the ac induction coil that induces current in the material, dc current flow in a separate dc coil, or coils, constructed to prevent excessive induced losses, by discrete magnets, or a combination of any of the three prior methods. The dc magnetic field may also be established by dc current flow in one or more dc coils disposed around a magnetic pole piece located below the base of the furnace.

  • Patent number: 7137423
Abstract: The invention relates to a tire having at least one component (e.g. tread) of a rubber composition comprised of an amine functionalized styrene/conjugated diene copolymer elastomer (e.g. styrene/butadiene and/or styrene/isoprene/butadiene copolymer elastomer) which contains reinforcement comprised of silanol functionalized particulate carbon black having silica domains covering a fraction of the carbon black surface together with an alkoxysilane polysulfide coupling agent. The silica domains on the carbon black surface contain hydroxyl groups (e.g. silanol groups) on their surfaces which are reactive with the alkoxysilane moiety of the coupling agent. The amine functionalized styrene/butadiene elastomer is an organic solution polymerization prepared elastomer which contains pendant and/or terminal amine groups as one or more of primary amine, secondary amine, tertiary amine, and/or heterocyclic amine groups. The amine functionalized elastomer may be tin coupled.

  • Patent number: 6962181
Abstract: This invention relates to a pneumatic tire having a built-in sealant layer and its preparation. The sealant layer precursor is a layer of a butyl rubber based composition which contains an organoperoxide. The butyl rubber of said precursor is a copolymer of isobutylene and isoprene containing from about 0.5 to about 5, alternately less than 1, mole percent isoprene. The precursor composition contains carbon black and/or coal dust and may contain a dispersion of liquid conjugated diene polymer (e.g. liquid cis 1,4-polyisoprene polymer), short fibers and/or hollow glass microspheres. A layer of the sealant precursor is built into the tire between a sulfur vulcanized halobutyl rubber innerliner and conjugated diene-based rubber of the tire carcass. The butyl rubber of the sealant precursor is partially depolymerized by the organoperoxide during the elevated temperature vulcanization of the tire to form the built-in sealant layer.

  • Patent number: 6963317
Abstract: A radio frequency identification (RFID) tag antenna system includes a planar two arm logarithmic spiral antenna with a suitably small form factor. There are two arms are of conductive foils or etched copper plating on a substrate the extend outwardly from a center in a logarithmic fashion. The two arms are identical to each other but rotated in the plane by 180 degrees. The arms also grow proportionally in width as they extend outward, but at any given distance from the center the width of both arms are equal to each other and, preferably, equal to the spaces between the arms. An impedance matching network receives the RF signal received by the dual spiral antenna and feed the RF signal to an electronic circuit that rectifies and multiplies the signal to form a DC signal that charges a capacitor.

  • Patent number: 6697037
Abstract: A matrix addressed display system designed so as to enable data line repair by electronic mechanisms which is efficient and low in cost and thus increases yield. Such active data line repair utilizes additional data driver outputs, a defect map memory in the TFT/LCD module and modification of the data stream to the data drivers by additional circuits between the display and the display adapter. A bus configuration on the display substrate is utilized which combines repair flexibility, low parasitic capacitance, and the ability to easily make the necessary interconnections. The number of interconnections is kept to a minimum, the connections are reliable, and the connections may be made with conventional wire bond or laser bond technology, or disk bond technology.

  • Patent number: 6646840
Abstract: An ESD protection device including a compound transistor structure having a trigger transistor and an ESD protection transistor. The trigger transistor includes a breakdown potential between the standoff voltage of a circuit to be protected and the breakdown potential of the ESD protection transistor. When activated, the trigger transistor operates to turn on the ESD protection transistor that is designed to carry the bulk of the conduction current associated with an ESD event. The trigger transistor is designed with an internal gain mechanism to ensure that it will not be turned off when a modified snapback voltage is reached during the ESD protection transistor operation. The trigger transistor is a minor contributor to the conducting current with the ESD protection transistor after such time as protection circuit operation acts. A process for fabricating a suitable compound transistor structure is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6484126
Abstract: A system and method for interfacing with a nuclear power plant's digital plant protection system activates emergency response devices when necessary. Two redundant bistable processors in each of four logic channels determine whether a particular parameter of the plant operation exceeds safety limits based on output from the plant protection system which monitors plant operations. Two independent coincidence processors in each channel compare the output of each bistable processor with the complementary output of a bistable processor of another logic channel. The results are provided to a series of component control system processors for activating emergency response devices when necessary. A fiber optic network interconnects the logic channels. Within each channel, a fiber optic network is provided between the component control system processors and a main control room so that a manual activation signal can be sent to the component control processors.
