  • Publication number: 20040157178
Abstract: A method of combustion and a burner assembly wherein at least one fuel and at least one oxidizer are injected separately. The oxidizer comprises a primary oxidizer stream and a secondary oxidizer stream. The primary oxidizer stream is divided into at least two portions. One portion is injected close to the fuel whereby generating a first incomplete combustion. The second portion is injected downstream of the first injection point with the fuel source consisting of the remaining uncombusted fuel of the first incomplete combustion in addition to the fuel. The secondary oxidizer stream is injected downstream from the primary oxidizer stream, whereby resulting in combustion with the unreactive fuel gases remaining from the first combustion.

  • Publication number: 20040009446
Abstract: The invention concerns a Claus furnace gas burner consisting of at least five concentric tubes (T1-T5), forming five concentric gaps for introducing gas, the first tube (T1) being the tube with the smallest diameter and the fifth tube (T5) being the one with the largest diameter, wherein: the ends on the side of the Claus furnace of the third, fourth and fifth tubes are in the same plane, the two central tubes (T1, T2) are integral relative to each other and mobile along a central longitudinal axis of the burner relative to the other tubes (T3-T5), their ends on the Claus furnace side not exceeding the plane formed by the ends of the three other tubes, the gap formed between the first and second tubes (T1, T2) being terminated on the Claus furnace side by an injector oriented towards the periphery of the burner in the injecting direction of the gases into the burner.

  • Publication number: 20010018962
Abstract: A heat exchanger useful for preheating oxidizing gases in a combustion process includes a shell having an inlet and an outlet for the ingress and egress of a first heat exchange fluid, such as a flue gas or preheated air. A first tube manifold couples an inlet end-cap to the first end of the shell. The inlet end-cap has an inlet for receiving a second heat exchange fluid, such as an oxidizing gas. In one embodiment, a second manifold couples an outlet end-cap to the second end of the shell. The second manifold includes an outlet tube therein extending from the second manifold through an outlet opening in the outlet end-cap. A tube bundle is disposed within the shell for transporting the oxidizing gas through the heat exchanger and is coupled to the first and second tube manifolds. The outlet tube collects oxidizing gas flowing through the tube bundle for discharge to a combustion system.
