  • Publication number: 20080198516
Abstract: A method and device for providing electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection are disclosed. The method uses the gate-controlled conductivity of field n-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor (field NMOSFET), wherein considerable ESD current can be conducted away when any ESD event beyond range of operation voltage, unlike PMOS ESD protection which is to be turned on at negative voltage. Instead of the traditional two-stage ESD protection (using one ESD protection between open drain output and VSS and the other ESD protection between VDD and VSS), the device can be directly used between open drain output and power source VDD for the wide range of operation voltage. Unlike the floating-gate field NMOS using punch through current for ESD protection, a controllable triggered voltage by changing the gate threshold voltage supports the device to be a robust ESD protection.

  • Publication number: 20080198115
Abstract: An overdrive accuracy adjustment device and method for use in liquid crystal display panel is presented. According to a current grayscale value of a pixel in an awaiting to be displayed image and a previous grayscale value of the corresponding pixel in an already-displayed image, the corresponding overdrive grayscale value is found from the look-up table. In order to more efficiently use the limited storage capacity of the look-up table as well as improving the accuracy of the overdrive, in accordance to the physical characteristics of the liquid crystal display panel in particular (in particular to the grayscale values which often required the overdrive), the gap size between the current grayscale values and/or the previous grayscale values with each other should be adjusted in the look-up table, without having to increase the quantity of the overdrive grayscale values stored in the look-up table.

  • Publication number: 20080174929
Abstract: A driving system used for light emitting diodes relating to a controllable driver which can detect the voltage desire from application and adjust driving voltage (Vapp1-Vapp2) automatically in order to reach a steady driving current. Additionally, users can adjust the setting of driving current and the output value of DC voltage source for application with different voltage and current requirements through a control interface. The over-temperature and over-current protections (e.g. cutting off driving current or setting the upper limit of driving current) are also included in the system for prevention of possible harms. In the system, a driving system is also disclosed for integration of all the mentioned functions but no need of massive space and can be used in LED lighting system or LED backlight system for constant power emitting.

  • Publication number: 20080170176
Abstract: There is provided a backlight module having a phosphor layer and a liquid crystal display device using the backlight module as its light source. The backlight module includes a bottom cover, a plurality of light sources (which can emit a blue light or an ultraviolet light) installed inside of the bottom cover, a diffusion plate, and a multicolor phosphor layer formed on a surface of the diffusion plate, wherein the phosphor consisting of the fluorescent materials can be excited by the blue light or the ultraviolet light, and the excited phosphor states subsequently emit the red light, blue light, and green light respectively associated with the individual red, blue, and green fluorescent materials in the phosphor layer. By combining appropriate ratios of red, blue, and green fluorescent materials in the phosphor layer, a white light is generated.

  • Patent number: 7375854
Abstract: A method for color correction is provided. In this method, a plurality of groups of gray levels and luminance of light source of display device are respectively selected by color measurement system. The selected data of each color light are respectively calculated to obtain fitting functions which can fit the gray level data of each interval. The fitting luminance of the gray levels in interval is obtained by the fitting function and formed into a lookup table. Then in order to correspond a gamma curve of normalized gray data of image to a predetermined target curve, the two gamma curves are first taken to logarithmic calculation and the modified gray signals are obtained from the lookup table, then the modified gray signals are transmitted out for providing the display device to express the gray distribution state. The method for color correction is applicable to various display devices, especially liquid crystal display device.

  • Publication number: 20080100553
Abstract: The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device and a method of driving the same. The steps of the method contains: (1) upgrade the frame rate up to p/q times (p, q are natural numbers and p>q) and produce a series of output frames; (2) conduct grey level conversions for the series of output frames using different mapping curves based on different gamma values; (3) process the series of converted output frames by an appropriate gamma correction curve and presents the output frames on the LCD panel by an appropriate scanning method. In step (2) of the present invention, two grey level mapping curves, each specified by a specific gamma value, are applied alternately to the series of output frames and the two grey level mapping curves can be identical or different. Thus, the enhancement in brightness and high display performance and quality can be achieved.

  • Publication number: 20070291198
Abstract: A device and a related device for driving LED-based, direct-lit backlight modules are provided. The device contains a driver controller which receives the timing signals from the display device and a number of drivers which is series-connected or parallel-connected to the driver controller. Each of the drivers is activated by the driver controller to drive a number of LEDs of the backlight module by current pulses. Each driver automatically detects its output current or voltage and increases the duty cycle of the current pulses so as to compensate the brightness loss from out-of-work LEDs. The method delivers pulses of different pulse counts in a fixed period of time (e.g., a frame time) to the red-, green-, and blue-light LEDs so as to achieve a constant color temperature based on their different response to the temperature.

  • Publication number: 20070262732
Abstract: The method of the present invention turns off the line of LEDs of a backlight module behind the currently enabled scanline of a LCD device so that the transient behavior of the liquid crystal molecules are less obvious, thereby enhancing the dynamic response of the LCD device. For one type of embodiments, in accordance with the top-down scanning of the LCD device, the corresponding horizontal lines of the LEDs of the backlight module are turned off in a certain manner so that they exhibit a lighting (or, more precisely, darkening) pattern as if they are also “scanned” from top to down. For another type of embodiments, the horizontal lines of the LEDs of the backlight module are turned off and on simultaneously so that the backlight module actually “flashes” the LCD device.
