    Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for controlling a packet data flow in a radio communication system, such as a third-generation, cellular communication system. Indicia of communications of the packet data flow upon an air link extending to a mobile station are provided to a selector. The selector selects, responsive to values of the communication indicia, whether to alter, such as by reducing or terminating, the packet data flow upon the air link. Selection is made by the selector and indications of the selection are provided to an allocator. The allocator allocates communication capacity in the radio access network of the communication system to the packet data flow as well as other ongoing packet data flows in the radio access network.

    Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating communication of a data block to a mobile station when a handover of communications is effectuated. A segmentation and distribution unit is positioned at a base station gateway, and the base station gateway is coupled to both a first target entity and a second target entity. Portions of the data block are provided to the first target entity to be communicated to the mobile station. When a handover of communications is effectuated, the buffered portion of the data which has not yet been successfully delivered to the mobile station is forwarded to the second target entity. And, other portions of the data block, not yet delivered to the first target gateway are, thereafter, provided directly to the second target entity.

    Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for allocating communication resources to effectuate a communication service at a selected quality level in a spread-spectrum, cellular communication system. A determination is made at a serving cell whether communication resources are available to effectuate the communication service adequately. If adequate communication resources are not available at the serving cell, resources are borrowed at another cell. Resources of the serving cell together with resources of the additional cell together permit the effectuation of the communication service.

    Abstract: A new session or handoff procedure is triggered for a mobile station in a communications network having a packet switched network connected to a wireless network. A data identifier from the wireless network is determined which indicates the location of the mobile station in the wireless network. A list maintained in a gateway connected between the wireless network and the packet switch network associates data identifiers of the packet switched network with data identifiers of the wireless network. The data identifier of the packet switched network indicating the location of the mobile station in the wireless network is determined using the list maintained in the gateway.
