  • Publication number: 20190160230
Abstract: In some embodiments a system and method are described for safeguarding a hazard, the hazard, for example a needle point, may be moved between a protected retracted position, an active extended position and/or an intermediate position. Optionally in the retracted position, the hazard may be protected inside a housing. Optionally in the extended position, the hazard may be exposed. Optionally, in the intermediate position the hazard may be partially protected and/or concealed, for example by a shield and/or in an indentation. In some embodiments, compromising a shield causes the hazard to be retracted to the retracted position.

  • Publication number: 20190105445
Abstract: A cartridge interface assembly drives a stopper in a drug reservoir or a drug delivery device. An anti-rotational guide optionally moves along an axis of a cavity of the reservoir. The anti-rotational guide is optionally slidably anti-rotationally coupled to a housing of the drug delivery device. A telescoping plunger driver may include a proximal shaft and distal shaft that telescope by relative rotation. The distal shaft is optionally slidably anti-rotationally coupled to the anti-rotational guide. The shafts are optionally oriented along said axis. In some embodiments, rotating the proximal shaft with respect to the anti-rotational guide moves the guide along said axis with respect to the housing and moves the distal shaft along the axis with respect to the anti-rotational guide.

  • Patent number: 10251813
Abstract: An alignment assembly for a cartridge interface of a drug delivery device is disclosed. The assembly optionally includes a coupling for opening fluid communication between the cartridge and the delivery device. For example, the coupling optionally includes a cannula insertable through a septum of the cartridge. The assembly may include a guide for positioning the cartridge and/or an access channel thereof within a first precision of a loaded position. The assembly optionally includes a cartridge engagement fitting (for example a gripping expander sleeve collar) attached to the coupling. Optionally when the cartridge is engaged to the fitting, the coupling is retained in connection with the access channel to within a second precision. The second precision is optionally higher than the first precision. In some embodiments one or more compliant supports movably retain the fitting oriented to engage the cartridge when the access channel is in the loaded position.

  • Patent number: 10173009
Abstract: An aspect of some embodiments of the current application is a doorstop to a drug delivery apparatus that encourages a user of the apparatus to perform the proper usage steps in the proper order. For example, a user may be expected to receive an injector in a transport state, open it to an open state, insert a cartridge, and/or close the cartridge before operation. The doorstop may have an obstructing mode, optionally preventing closing of the door. The cartridge may optionally have a non-obstructing mode allowing closing of the door. Inserting the cartridge may optionally cause a doorstop to move from the obstructing mode to the non-obstructing mode. In the non-obstructing mode the doorstop may optionally prevent removal of the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 10071198
Abstract: A variable flexibility adhesive system may adhere a surface of a medical infusion device to the skin of a user. The system may be configured to hold a location on the surface stationary with respect to a site on the user's skin. The system may include an adhesive substrate for adhering to the user and an interface where the substrate is held to the surface of the device. The interface may totally and/or partially surround the stationary location. A skirt of the substrate may totally and/or partially surround the interface. Parts of the skirt may be stiffened. Optional features may include tabs for activation of the adhesive and/or a location for peeling the infuser away from the skin. Additionally or alternatively, the interface may have variable flexibility. Additionally or alternatively, the stiffener may include a plastic layer.

  • Publication number: 20180154081
Abstract: A method and assembly are disclosed for interfacing between a drug cartridge and a drug delivery device. Optionally, the drug delivery device includes a compartment that retains the cartridge during drug delivery and/or a stopper pushing assembly mounted to the device behind (proximal to) the compartment. In some embodiments, the cartridge may be inserted laterally into the compartment in front of the pushing assembly. For example, the delivery device may include a moving cartridge bay. The cartridge is optionally inserted into the bay and/or the bay and cartridge optionally move into the cartridge compartment. Alternatively or additionally, the cartridge compartment may have a proximal opening into which the cartridge is inserted and/or the pushing assembly may be moved into position after insertion of the cartridge. In some embodiments the cartridge may have a distal seal that is broken by a longitudinal movement.

  • Publication number: 20180117248
Abstract: A status of a battery operated infuser may be detected by measuring a controlled input parameter. The measurement may be used to determine a magnitude of the input parameter and a parameter of the control. For example, control of power input to a motor may be by pulse density modulation. An integral of current over time may serve as a measure of current magnitude and pulse density. The result of the integral may be used to determine the status of the injector. The status may include normal functions for example start of pumping and/or malfunctions such as occlusion or drive disengagement.

  • Publication number: 20180056009
Abstract: Drug delivery devices of a standard size are adapted for injecting different doses. The device comprises an injection needle, a reservoir having an available volume, and a plunger for evacuating the volume into the needle for injection. A spacer is placed with the plunger in the reservoir to take up some of the available volume and leave a residual amount of available volume in the reservoir to correspond to a currently desired dose size. The spacer may be selected from different sizes corresponding to different doses.

  • Patent number: 9795534
Abstract: An assembly for coupling a drug delivery device to a cartridge is disclosed. Optionally the assembly includes a coupling, for example a cannula, having one end extending toward the cartridge. The cartridge is optionally aligned by a guide. Optionally the cartridge has a limited freedom of movement. The coupling is optionally supported by a mount. In some embodiments, the mount is compliant enough that the end of the coupling that extends toward may move to said limited freedom of movement under a force less than a leak threshold of the connection between the coupler and the cartridge.
