  • Publication number: 20050013310
Abstract: A system for reducing the cost of network managment by using a proxy agent and subchannel communications so fewer SNMP licenses and fewer protocol stacks are needed. Subchannel communication is achieved in a plurality of different embodiments. Embodiments having single subchannel transceivers, multiple transceivers, single multiplexer and multiple multiplexers are disclosed. An NMS process using routing table CRC to automatically detect when the NMS topology information is incorrect and automated topology discovery is disclosed. A process for automated discovery of redundant cables during automated topology discovery is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6324633
Abstract: A cache system and method for configuring and accessing a cache that enables a binary-sized memory space to be efficiently shared amongst cache and non-cache uses. A storage device is provided having a plurality of blocks where each block is identified with a block address. An access request identifies a target block address. The target block address includes an upper portion and a lower portion. A non-binary divide is performed on the upper portion to produce a quotient and a remainder. The remainder portion is combined with the lower portion to create an index. The index is applied to a tag memory structure to select an entry or set of entries in the tag memory structure. The content of the selected entry is compared to the quotient portion to determine if the target block is represented in the cache.

  • Patent number: 6295272
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing a subchannel for management and control or other supplemental data on a media shared with a high speed data link. Several FDMA approaches are disclosed including AM, FM, PM, phase, QAM, QPSK etc. modulation of a subcarrier having a frequency which is in the bandwidth provided by the shared media which is not used by the DC balanced high speed data stream. A preferred species which is compatible with existing high speed data transmitters and receivers comprises a subchannel transmitter which frequency shift keys a subchannel carrier of about 1 mHz with the subchannel data. The modulated subchannel carrier is summed by superposition with a DC balanced NRZ format gigabit data stream and coupled onto the media.

  • Patent number: 5823105
Abstract: A waste compacting apparatus is provided for compacting waste in a disposal barrel, and includes a frame on which a ram assembly is supported. The apparatus also includes a movable pallet for supporting the disposal barrel for movement through an opening in the frame between a compacting position in which the disposal barrel is aligned with a ram of the ram assembly, and a handling position outside the frame in which the disposal barrel is accessible for handling. The pallet includes a base plate on which the disposal barrel sits, and the base plate overlies a base of the frame in the compacting position so that the base plate and disposal barrel are supported on the base during compaction of the waste by the ram. A method of collecting and compacting waste in a disposal barrel is also provided, and includes the steps of collecting waste in a collection barrel, and moving the collection barrel onto a dumping apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4806852
Abstract: A unique automatic test system (100) is provided in which timing signals are generated in a novel manner as compared with prior art test systems. All adjustments for propagation delays of timing signals are made in a digital fashion, by adjusting the digital information which defines when an analog timing signal is to be generated. Deskewing of propagation delays is performed automatically under computer control, rather than by requiring careful adjustment of hardware deskewing elements. By adjusting for propagation skews digitally, propagation skews dependent on data values (logical 0 and logical 1) can be made. Furthermore, timing signals are provided by three timing edges, rather than by a timing pulse, thereby allowing more accurate generation of timing signals.

  • Patent number: 4441288
Abstract: A sectionalized attachable rod survey monument of the type which is driven into the ground has a lower anchor pilot rod section and an upper rod section made of a solid aluminum alloy. An axial hole is drilled in the upper end of the pilot rod section and the lower end of the upper rod section to accept a stainless steel roll pin, and the two rods are separated by a stainless steel spacer washer. The spring pin becomes compressed when it is inserted into the holes in the ends of the rods and holds them together. The rods cannot physically be pulled apart under normal use; but when the upper rod is mechanically disturbed, such as when it is hit by road equipment or vandalized, the rods separate from one another. A permanent magnet is carried in the bottom of the hole in the lower pilot rod to permit detection of the marker location whenever the upper rod does become separated from the lower pilot rod.

  • Patent number: 4254597
Abstract: A survey monument of the type adapted to be driven into the ground includes at least first and second elongated cylindrical rod sections. The two sections are connected together by a threaded connector turned into threaded bores at the upper end of the first rod section and the lower end of the second rod section. The lower end of the first rod section is terminated by a conical penetrating point and a pair of flukes, formed by stamping them out of the first rod section, are located intermediate this point and the upper end of the first rod section. These flukes are oriented with respect to the axis of the rod sections to cause the sections to rotate about their axis in a direction to tighten the threaded connection of the two rod sections as the sections are driven into the ground.

  • Patent number: 3970520
Abstract: Foodstuffs of improved nutritive quality are obtained by incorporating enzymatically hydrolyzed non-gelatin proteinaceous materials into the foodstuffs. It has been discovered that organoleptic properties, color, clarity and the overall characteristics of the foodstuffs are not adversely affected by the inclusion of these soluble hydrolyzed proteins which are heat and acid stable.
