  • Publication number: 20020189158
Abstract: A fuel additive for use in the treatment of diesel fuels to reduce polluting emissions during the combustion of such fuels wherein the additive composition is formulated to contain mineral seal oil, mineral spirits, a glycol alkyl ether and at least one alkyl aromatic ethoxylated surfactant. It has been found that the fuel additive composition of the invention can be blended with such fuels to dramatically reduce emissions during the combustion of such fuels.

  • Patent number: 6450949
Abstract: An endoscope assembly is disclosed having a housing adapted to be manipulated by medical personnel, such as a surgeon. An elongated lens tube has one end secured to the housing while the free end of the lens tube is adapted for insertion into a cavity of a body. At least one, and preferably several, lens assemblies are longitudinally slidably mounted within the lens tube and movable between longitudinally spaced positions within the lens tube. A drive mechanism is mounted to the housing and mechanically coupled to each lens assembly to move the lens assemblies longitudinally within the lens tube independently of one another. In doing so, the lens assemblies provide varying degrees of magnification between low or macroscopic magnification and microscopic magnification at the free end of the lens tube. A stage is also detachably secured over the lens tube and has a transparent window across its end adjacent the free end of the lens tube.

  • Publication number: 20020115908
Abstract: An endoscope assembly is disclosed having a housing adapted to be manipulated by medical personnel, such as a surgeon. An elongated lens tube has one end secured to the housing while an elongated stage is removably secured to the housing so that the stage encompasses and is coaxial with the tube. The stage together with the lens tube are adapted for insertion into the cavity of a body. A lens assembly provided within the lens tube relays the optical image from the free end of the stage to the housing. A lens assembly within the housing, furthermore, varies the magnification of the image between macroscopic magnification and microscopic magnification in which tissue may be examined on a cellular level. For macroscopic magnification, white light is transmitted through the lens tube as well as reflected back from the target tissue through the lens tube and to the housing. For microscopic examination, laser radiation is utilized in lieu of the white light illumination.

  • Patent number: 6308886
Abstract: A system is disclosed for processing and/or issuing cards containing machine-readable information. The system is preferably housed in a terminal which includes an insertion port to accept a card from a user. The system further includes a hopper which stores a plurality of blank cards. In one embodiment, the hopper and insertion port both lead to a card flipping device, which receives a card and may rotate and/or advance the card to either a card printing module or a card reading/writing module. The card flipping device may rotate through 180°, so that both sides of the card may be printed at the printing module and/or processed in the card reading/writing module. In another embodiment, the system is adapted to receive a personal identification number (PIN) entered directly by a user, and generate corresponding “offsets” or coded inputs for storage on the card.

  • Patent number: 5415429
Abstract: A self-contained vehicle safety system is provided which can be easily installed in an automotive vehicle at occupant seating positions lacking airbag protection. Each system employs a canister containing a collapsed airbag and a compressed gas cylinder. A septum isolates the reservoir from the bag and from an air filled pneumatic line with a puncturing element that is located adjacent the septum. The pneumatic line leads to an actuator housing that preferably contains at least one linear, cylindrical passageway in which a piston is mounted for reciprocal movement. A biasing spring normally holds the piston at a position in the cylindrical cavity remote from a pressure transmission port coupled to the pneumatic line. However, in the event of a collision the inertial mass of the piston overcomes the spring and travels along the cylindrical cavity passage in the actuator housing.

  • Patent number: 5229177
Abstract: Continuous flat unidirectional flat ribbons, which have been precut from an impregnated fiber reinforced-matrix composite tape so as to have a substantially greater width than thickness, are interlaced in over-and-under relationship in 0 degree and 90 degree directions into the form of a continuous, multi-directional seamless tube. The tube may be cut into tubular sections, which then are subjected to temporary heat and pressure so that the matrix fuses the interlaced ribbons to form an integral tube. The elongated seamless tube also may be cut into planar sections and used to form integral members of planar or contoured construction. The integral members may be formed of a single layer of the interlaced material, or of laminated construction from multiple layers of the interlaced material, with the ribbons of each layer either extending parallel, at an angle other than 0 degrees/90 degrees, aligned, or offset, with respect to the ribbons in the other layer(s).

  • Patent number: 5222561
Abstract: Shoes for horses are fabricated from a plastic material which is reinforced by kinked metal wire. The shoes are lightweight, readily formable, have good wear properties and are much easier on the horse than metal shoes. The reinforced plastic material is also useful for fabrication of hoof pads.

  • Patent number: 4513772
Abstract: An automatic hose winding apparatus includes a reel rotatably coupled between first and second side members of a frame. A clutch is coupled between a motor and the reel for selectively imparting rotary motion thereto. A guide assembly including a traversing screw, a follower mounted on the traversing screw, and a guide bar, guide the hose onto the reel. A lever assembly coupled to the frame and responsive to rotation of the guide bar disengages the clutch just prior to turning the motor off.

  • Patent number: 4233747
Abstract: A layout tool for defining points on rolled metal H beams comprises a U shape frame having a hand hold in the bight of the U. One leg of the frame is longer than the other and terminates at its end in a stabilizing and guide member extending perpendicular thereto. The guide member has a flat wear surface adapted to be positioned against the working line of the beam on the external surface of the beam to which all measurements are taken. The other leg of the frame slidingly supports in a channel provided therein a T scale having a flat stabilizing base member adapted to rest on the web of the beam. A locking mechanism is provided in the second leg which includes a thumb screw for locking the scale in position in the channel. The scale is disposed at right angles to the legs and the stabilizing and guide member such that the layout tool allows orthogonal lines to be scribed in any one position of the tool.

  • Patent number: 3963097
Abstract: A flexible fire ladder is stowed in a housing mounted between a pair of projecting beams within a decorative overhang over a window of a building. The housing is either underside a pivotly mounted hopper, or is formed by a soffit below the roof overhang and includes a pivotly mounted door. In either event, the hopper or door is retained in place by a catch. A cable for articulating the catch passes within the building wall to a handle mounted near the window. The cable may be pulled either manually by the handle or by a solenoid responsive to a fire detector.
