  • Publication number: 20050278117
Abstract: A method and apparatus for calculating the surface distance between two geographical locations are described. According to one aspect of the present invention, values are stored in a square look-up table for determining the square of a value. Also, values are stored in a linear to surface distance look-up table for determining the surface distance of a linear value. Cartesian co-ordinates of the two geographic locations and the square look-up table are then used to calculate the square of the linear distance between the two geographical locations and the linear to surface distance look-up table is used to convert the calculated square of the linear distance to a surface distance.

  • Patent number: 6765422
Abstract: The present invention enables an IC to have a fast PWM while maintaining the low frequency clock requirement of the temperature measurement. Methods are presented to increase the resolution of the control using a relatively low input clock. According to one method, the numerator and denominator of the PWM duty cycle equation are adjusted to achieve a desired resolution. According to another method, a determined number of PWM cycles are used to set the PWM duty cycle. For example, an averaging of 1024 duty cycles may be used to achieve an increased resolution of the duty cycle as compared to using only one duty cycle. According to yet another method, an error integrating loop is used to determine the level of the next cycle. The number of cycles used to reach the target PWM duty cycle depends on the desired resolution.

  • Patent number: 6332710
Abstract: A multi-channel remote diode temperature sensor that receives current flow across a plurality of remote diodes on a plurality of channels at a single negative data pin, is small in size and has reduced noise coupling between channels at the common negative data pin. The noise coupling of the multi-channel remote diode temperature sensor is minimized by placing an output of a low impedance buffer in electrical communication with the negative data pin. The voltage produced by the low impedance buffer automatically stabilizes the common mode voltage at the negative data pin. The size is minimized by configuring all channels of the multi-channel remote diode temperature sensor to share the sole negative data pin, thereby reducing pin count.

  • Patent number: 5546433
Abstract: A phase-lock loop (PLL) circuit can be locked on to a synthesizer frequency without decreasing the available range of the frequency differences which the PLL circuit can accommodate during a data receive mode. An analog-to-digital conveyer (ADC) receives an analog input signal and responds to a periodic clock signal by providing a corresponding digital output signal. A phase comparator is coupled to receive the ADC digital output signal and to provide a phase error signal which is representative of a phase error in the digital output signal. A filter accumulates the value of the phase error signal into a filter first register to generate a primary frequency error value. The filter further includes a filter second register for holding a secondary frequency error value (e.g., a value which corrects for an offset between a synthesizer frequency and the PLL free-running frequency).

  • Patent number: 4923204
Abstract: An adjustable king pin assembly for releasably mating with a fifth wheel assembly on a tractor-trailer arrangement. The king pin is secured to a plate which plate is slidably positioned for longitudinal movement with respect to the frame of the trailer in a space between spaced, elongated, longitudinally aligned guide bars. Spaced longitudinally aligned apertures are provided in the plate or guide bars, and an appropriate locking mechanism, secured to the assembly, is releasably movable into locking position in any one of each one of the apertures to securely hold the plate in position against longitudinal movement. An appropriate mechanical control mechanism is provided for moving the locking means from and into locking position. The assembly according to the invention provides an economical and easy-to-operate system for longitudinally positioning the king pin.
