  • Publication number: 20180138930
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, circuits, architectures and methods related to front-end architectures for wireless devices configured for uplink carrier aggregation. The disclosed front-end architectures include a first power amplifier module with filters and a second filter-less power amplifier module. The front-end architectures are configured to route signals from the filter-less power amplifier module to the first power amplifier module for filtering. This reduces the size of the second filter-less module relative to a module that utilizes its own filters, thereby reducing costs, reducing size, and/or providing additional space for other modules or other functionality to be included in a wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20180019768
Abstract: Disclosed herein are front-end architectures for wireless communication that support a wide range of combinations of uplink carrier aggregation (UL CA) and simultaneous multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) functionality. Embodiments can include a separate mid-band power amplifier module and a separate high band power amplifier module, and can establish various numbers of antenna outputs from these modules to connect to available diplexers or triplexers in selected ways to cover all intended use cases. Duplication of filters, duplexers, and/or quadplexers is reduced or minimized by re-using filtering in a selectively designed MIMO receive module that supports switch-combined TX filters. A UL CA power amplifier module makes use of the MIMO receive module, as well as the re-use of available filters in the mid-band primary power amplifier module.

  • Patent number: 9866268
Abstract: Radio frequency systems with transmit and receive isolation are provided. In certain configurations, a wireless device includes a power amplifier including a power amplifier output configured to provide a transmit signal, one or more duplexers including a first duplexer associated with a first frequency band, a plurality of antennas including a first antenna and a second antenna, a plurality of switches, and an isolation detection system. The plurality of switches are configured to selectively connect the power amplifier output to the first antenna via a selected path chosen from a plurality of signal paths, including a first signal path through the first duplexer and a duplexer bypass path that bypasses the one or more duplexers. Additionally, the isolation detection system is configured to control the selected path of the plurality of switches based on detecting an amount of antenna coupling between the first antenna and the second antenna.
