  • Patent number: 9579657
Abstract: This disclosure provides a thermocycler system for performing polymerase chain reaction. The thermocycler system can comprise a plurality of bus bars, a microplate, a clamp and a current application device in electrical communication with the bus bars. The clamp is suitable for forming a low resistance electrical connection between the microplate and an individual bus bar of the plurality of bus bars. In some instances, the clamp includes a spring-loaded pivot and a ram. Operation of the clamp forces the microplate into contact with the bus bar, or vice versa, to provide an electrical contact between the microplate and the bus bar. The microplate can comprise a substrate having a metallic material for heating samples, and a barrier layer disposed adjacent to the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20160334347
Abstract: A tool having a pump-out unit, pumping unit, and NMR unit is disposed in a wellbore. On a pump-up cycle, after removing borehole fluids, a fluid is injected into a region of investigation. NMR measurements are made while fluid migrates into the region of investigation. On a production cycle, pressure is removed, allowing fluid to exit the formation while NMR measurements are made. A rate of fluid production is estimated using the time-dependent NMR measurements. Alternatively, the mass of a sample is measured. Fluid is injected into the sample and the mass of the injected sample is measured. Pressure is removed and the mass of the injected sample as the fluid migrates out of the sample is measured. The change in mass of the injected sample as the fluid migrates out of the sample is determined and a rate of fluid production is estimated using the determined change in mass.

  • Patent number: 9490540
Abstract: A terrestrial transceiver is described, which is operable for exchanging RF signals with communication satellites. The transceiver has a patch antenna sensitive to signals within an L-Band RF range and operable for providing a gain to the RF signals. A metallic reflector of a characteristic dimension is operable for shaping a pattern of the RF gain of the patch antenna. A printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) has a dielectric substrate, an electronic component disposed upon the substrate, and a hole penetrating the substrate and disposed substantially within a central region thereof. Based on the dimension characteristic of the reflector and on a positioning and/or a dimension of the hole, the RF gain diverges over an angle from a boresight of the patch antenna.

  • Publication number: 20160278982
Abstract: An intraocular shunt can be placed into a human eye using a hollow shaft having a distal tip with a bevel. The hollow shaft can be advanced through the anterior chamber while the hollow shaft holds the intraocular shunt. The distal tip can penetrate the sclera until the bevel is positioned distal to a superficial wall of the sclera. The shunt can be advanced at least partially from the hollow shaft into a drainage space of lower pressure than the anterior chamber. The hollow shaft can be withdrawn from the eye, leaving the shunt extending from the anterior chamber completely through the sclera to the drainage space.

  • Publication number: 20160250569
Abstract: An apparatus for refining a liquid stream using 180 degree redirection and inclined plates. The apparatus includes a first flow chamber, a second flow chamber, and a separation chamber. The first flow chamber directs the liquid stream downwards in a first direction at a first velocity, the second flow chamber directs the liquid carrier upwards in a second direction opposite the first direction, and the separation chamber is disposed between the first flow chamber and the second flow chamber. The separation chamber includes a redirection portion that has inclined plates across which the liquid carrier flows and, as the liquid slows from a first velocity to a second velocity, the solid particles fall out of the liquid carrier and collect in the collection portion of the separation chamber.

  • Publication number: 20160250071
Abstract: Intraocular pressure can be reduced by insertion of an intraocular shunt in the eye such that it forms a drainage pathway between the anterior chamber and a region of lower pressure. A hollow shaft that holds an intraocular shunt can be advanced through the anterior chamber. The sclera can be penetrated with the hollow shaft. A beveled tip of the shaft can be oriented such that a beveled surface thereof faces toward the Tenon's capsule when the beveled tip passes out of the sclera. After the beveled tip passes out of the sclera, at least a portion of the shunt can be advanced from the hollow shaft.

Abstract: A method of controlling the fuel distribution among different stages of a gas turbine combustion chamber is disclosed. The combustion chamber has at least two stages for fuel supply, and the fuel distribution between the stages is determined according to the load or one or more parameters indicative of the load. In reply to a fast load change being faster than a load change during a regular transient operation, the fuel distribution is determined according to an adjusted load or one or more parameters indicative of an adjusted load.

  • Publication number: 20160194551
Abstract: Treatment methods and treatment fluids for increasing permeability of organic shale formations are described herein. The treatment method includes treating an organic shale formation with a treatment fluid. The treatment fluid includes a solvent that dissolves bitumen in the shale formation. After treating the shale formation with the treatment fluid, oil is recovered from the shale formation. By removing bitumen from pores and pore throats within the formation, the solvent increases permeability of the formation and allows mobile oil to flow more easily through the formation.

  • Patent number: 9363320
Abstract: A first device and a second device are each assigned an IP address that is used to exchange messages with the other device. The first device stores the IP address for the second device. A new IP address may be assigned to the first device when it reestablishes a network connection following a location change or other network reconnection. The first device detects when a new IP address has been assigned. The first device then sends a hello message directly to the second device comprising the new IP address assigned to the first device. The new IP address allows the second device to find the first device without requiring network location services such as DNS. The first device may further include authentication credentials in the hello message to verify the new IP address.

  • Patent number: 9277271
Abstract: An antenna for broadcast television programming includes a tuner and demodulator located with the antenna to generate a demodulated television program stream. A network interface is connected to the tuner and demodulator to provide the television program stream to a network, preferably a wireless network. A television set located remotely from the antenna receives the television program stream via the network and displays the program. A portable control device may be connected to the network. Reception of the broadcast programming is improved by controlling the directionality of the antenna in response to the demodulated signal. A service provider may poll the wireless network antenna to determine which broadcast programs are received and may provide extended programming television programs to the user by an internet connection to the user's network.
