  • Patent number: 9147957
Abstract: An electrical connector is provided that includes a housing, terminals, and a stuffer. The housing has a plurality of terminal channels extending from a rear to a front of the housing. The front of the housing is configured to interface with a mating connector. The terminals are loaded into corresponding terminal channels from the rear of the housing. The terminals extend along a terminal axis between a mating end and a terminating end. The terminating end includes at least one tab that protrudes radially outward from the terminal axis. The stuffer is coupled to the rear of the housing. The stuffer includes multiple teeth received in corresponding terminal channels. When one terminal is not fully loaded in the terminal channel, the corresponding tooth engages one or more of the at least one tab of the terminal and forces the terminal further into the terminal channel.

  • Patent number: 8959957
Abstract: Methods are described for manufacturing silica-based glass, in which silica precursor material is supplied to a synthesis flame in the form of an emulsion. The methods involve the steps of: forming an emulsion of an aqueous phase in a non-aqueous liquid silica precursor material; supplying the emulsion as a spray of droplets into a synthesis flame, whereby the precursor material is converted in the flame into a silica-containing soot; and collecting the soot on a substrate, either as a porous soot body for subsequent consolidation to glass or directly as a substantially pore-free glass.

  • Patent number: 8122773
Abstract: The present invention pertains to systems and methods for measuring power output, as in an athletic activity such as cycling. One embodiment relates to a force sensing device configured to be mounted on the bottom surface of a shoe as part of a mechanical linkage through which force is exerted. For cycling, the force sensor is mounted on the bottom surface of a cycling shoe and fitted with a cleat that interlockingly engages a bicycle pedal. To measure both positive and negative pressures on the pedal, the force sensor is pre-stressed with a compressive load to an intermediate point in its dynamic range. Strains that further compress or decompress the force sensor can thus be measured. The computing module mathematically converts the measured pressures, positive and negative, to a measurement of total power exerted by the rider. In addition, the computing module may utilize cyclical regularities in the signal to compute the rider's cadence (pedal revolutions per unit of time).

  • Patent number: 6209372
Abstract: A hydroformed member having internal reinforcements and method of manufacturing the same. The method includes the steps of providing a die having a tooling cavity and a pair of opposing rams disposed in the tooling cavity. A tubular member is enclosed within the tooling cavity. The pair of opposing rams are then driven against opposing sides of the tubular member to form a pair of opposing indentations therein. While the rams remain in place, hydraulic fluid pressure is then applied within the tubular member causing the walls of the tubular member to closely conform to the shape of the tooling cavity and the pair of opposing rams.

  • Patent number: 6168918
Abstract: Methods of detecting the presence of a plasmid DNA sequence integrated in a chromosomal DNA molecule of a eukaryotic cell in a sample that contains chromosomal DNA molecules of eukaryotic cells and free plasmid DNA molecules are disclosed. According to the invention, chromosomal DNA of eukaryotic cells which are free of deoxyadenosine methyltransferase, and free plasmid DNA molecules which are produced in cells that contain deoxyadenosine methyltransferase and which have a DpnI site, are digested with one or more restriction enzymes that cleave plasmid DNA sequences integrated in the chromosomal DNA and plasmid DNA molecules to produce DNA digestion segments that are then fractionated to produce a plurality of fractions. The DNA digestion segments in each fraction is digested with DpnI and plasmid DNA sequences are amplified using sets of primers that flank a DpnI site in the plasmid DNA sequence.

  • Patent number: 6106274
Abstract: A transfer/injection molding apparatus is defined that includes a charge forming unit, a molding unit and a charge overflow unit. The charge is formed so that the fibers therein are randomly oriented in substantially parallel horizontal planes such that they are always substantially parallel to the direction of initial flow into the cavity of the molding unit. Excess charge from the cavity is forced into the charge overflow unit, which is selectively located in an area where surface finish is less critical. The excess charge displaces an overflow pin, which is kept upwardly biased, under molding pressure, to be flush with the lower inside wall of the molding unit cavity.

  • Patent number: 5967592
Abstract: A composite fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) bumper includes an energy absorbing outer shell which is spaced from a rigid inner beam. The outer shell deforms under low impact loads and serves as an energy absorber. Upon high impact loads, the shell abuts the inner beam which, in turn, transfers the loads to the vehicle frame.
