  • Publication number: 20100265518
Abstract: A surface inspection system includes a beam source subsystem, a beam scanning subsystem, a workpiece movement subsystem, an optical collection and detection subsystem, and a processing subsystem. The optical collection and detection system features back collectors disposed in the back quartersphere, outside the incident plane, for collecting light scattered from the surface of the workpiece. The back collectors are disposed at a relative minimum in the portion of scattered light attributable to haze relative to the portion of scattered light attributable to defect scatter portion, or, alternatively, at a relative minimum in the Rayleigh scatter.

  • Patent number: 7737393
Abstract: A system for generating orientation information includes a reflector, an image collection system, and a processor. The image collection system is configured to collect at least two sets of image data, where one set of image data includes a stronger indication of the reflector than the other set of image data. The two sets of image data are collected using at least one reflector with some orientation-specific characteristic or a reflector integrated into a device that includes some orientation-specific structural feature. Once collected, the two sets of image data are used to generate orientation information related to the reflector. In particular, orientation information related to the reflector is generated by taking the difference between the two sets of image data.

  • Publication number: 20100001950
Abstract: A system for generating position information includes a reflector, an image collection system, and a processor. The image collection system is configured to collect at least two sets of image data, where one set of image data includes a stronger indication of the reflector than the other set of image data. The two sets of image data can be collected in many different ways and may include using a retroreflector as the reflector. The two sets of image data are used to generate position information related to the reflector. In particular, position information related to the reflector is generated by taking the difference between the two set of image data. Because one set of image data includes a stronger indication of the reflector than the other set of image data, the difference between the two sets of image data gives a definitive indication of the reflector's position.

  • Publication number: 20090319838
Abstract: A method for determining a contribution of burst noise to a bit error rate in a digital system for reception of an interleaved forward error correction-enabled digital symbol stream is described. The method is based on identifying errored symbols at a decoding stage, determining their positions in the interleaved stream, and performing a windowing operation such that the errored symbols located within the window in the interleaved stream are designated as burst errored symbols. A corresponding digital receiver and a digital transmission system are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7613521
Abstract: The present invention relates to a wireless handheld device that is configured to communicate with an implanted device using inductive telemetry. The handheld device is preferably battery operated and includes a battery powered controller and a battery powered inductive coil. The inductive coil is configured to communicate with an inductive coil of the implanted device using inductive telemetry. The handheld device may include one battery voltage source that powers both the controller and the inductive coil, or multiple battery voltage sources to power the controller and inductive coil separately. In a single battery voltage source embodiment, the voltage may be amplified or reduced to meet the power needs of the controller and inductive coil. In a multiple battery voltage source embodiment, the voltage sources may be combined to increase the power output requirements of the inductive coil.

  • Publication number: 20090129316
Abstract: The systems and methods described herein include adaptive routing processes for packet-based wireless communication networks. This routing approach works both in MANETs (when a contemporaneous end-to-end path is available) and in DTNs (when a contemporaneous end to end path is not available, but one of formed over space and time). In particular, the methods include adaptively selecting a routing process for transmitting a packet through a node in the network based on available information on the network topology and/or the contents of the packet.
