  • Patent number: 7069110
Abstract: An RFID enabled paper roll includes a tubular core, a paper stock wound around the core, and a radio frequency integrated circuit electrically coupled to an antenna and positioned on the core. A system for reading a radio frequency integrated circuit positioned on an item of inventory in a warehouse comprises a material handling device and an RFID reader coupled to the material handling device. The material handling device has at least member for use in transporting an item of inventory. • Publication number: 20050204040
Abstract: Allocation of resources in a heterogeneous computing environment is facilitated. A resource manager of the heterogeneous computing environment obtains information that describes which nodes of the heterogeneous computing environment are capable of supporting additional operating systems and platforms over and above their native operating systems and platforms. This information is then used by the resource manager in allocating resources to satisfy a particular job.

  • Publication number: 20050125736
Abstract: A method of organizing icons on a desktop into groups and displaying the icon groups in segments on the desktop. The present invention comprises a Configuration Program (CP), an Icon Grouping Program (IGP), and an Icon Organization Program (IOP). The CP allows a user to define at least one segment on the desktop. The user defines the segment location, the segment size, the types of icons associated with the segment, the icon organization within the segment, and whether the segment covers the desktop wallpaper. The IGP analyzes the icons and places the icons into the proper segments based on the type of application associated with the icon. The IOP organizes the icons within each segment using the icon organization specified by the user in the CP. The IOP also organizes new icons that are added to the desktop. The present invention may also be applied to a web portal.

  • Publication number: 20040073636
Abstract: A method of copying an operating system image in a cluster computing environment that has virtually unlimited scale does not require the strict amounts of control over installation that current methods have, but rather causes operating system images to propagate themselves in a cluster environment, spreading from one node to the next until the entire cluster is installed. Broadcast storms and response storms during installation are avoided by employing a regulation method that automatically delays installation during busy periods. The method does not require any prior knowledge of the number of nodes in the cluster, or the cluster network configuration.

  • Patent number: 6253209
Abstract: A method for remotely administering one or more nodes of a distributed data processing system to provide mirroring of operating system images, and/or designating of alternate volume groups for the one or more nodes. A new data class is defined in a system data repository (SDR) coupled to a control node of the distributed system. A set of commands are provided to initiate and discontinue mirroring from the control node on a nodal volume group, along with designating alternate volume groups for remote installation on one or more nodes of the system in parallel. An interface to add, delete, modify or display information about nodal volume groups is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5974258
Abstract: A method of performing a software operation on a target of one of more processors in a distributed processing system wherein another processor is designated as a server. The method includes running a configuration program on the server to condition the server to serve on the target, the software operation which includes resource creation and object definitions; testing entry conditions in the configuration program for determining if entry conditions are met to serve the software operation on the target; if the entry conditions are met, serving the software operation on the target; at the completion of the software operation, testing exit conditions in the configuration program for determining if the software operation on the target completed successfully; if the exit conditions are met, exiting the software operation; returning to the configuration program to serve a second software operation on the target; and repeating until all software operations are served on the target.

  • Patent number: 4497261
Abstract: A structural unit comprises a rectangular base and floor with vertical walls attached to form an enclosure, and with a roof assembled thereto to form a miniature building, for containing a banking transactional computer, designated an automatic teller machine (ATM), which allows customers to withdraw currency and make deposits. The enclosure is designed for installation on narrow drive-through traffic islands and pedestrian walkways and may be used in shopping malls and retail outlets. The enclosure has interior space for private and secure servicing and maintenance of the ATM by bank and computer maintenance personnel. Through the use of an indexing turntable mechanism the ATM may be moved and rotated within the enclosure in order to present the operating portions and electronics of the machine for access required by the bank and computer personnel, without exposing them to conditions which encourage interference by outside agents or bystanders.
