  • Patent number: 8349813
Abstract: Methods of treating a dialysis component by providing a dialysis component and contacting the dialysis component with an enzyme are provided. The enzyme breaks down microbial contaminants in the dialysis component. The enzyme may be separated from the dialysis component to provide a purified dialysis component. The purified dialysis component may be substantially free of microbial contaminants that cause a cytokine response in humans.

  • Publication number: 20120220607
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods of delaying the onset or treating diabetes that comprises administering a uric acid lowering agent. The inventors have made the remarkable discovery that elevated uric acid levels are not a corollary to insulin resistance, but rather a primary mediator of insulin resistance. Specifically exemplified are methods that involve administering to a patient susceptible to development of diabetes a composition comprising a uric acid lowering agent in a regimen that maintains serum uric acid levels below at least 5.5 mg/dl, or below at least 5.2 mg/dl.

  • Patent number: 8236488
Abstract: It is intended to clarify a transportation system participating in the uric acid uptake in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and provide a novel remedy, a preventive or a treating agent for vascular disorders, hypertension and renal disorders with the use of a drug participating in this transportation system. It is also intended to provide a novel screening system for a remedy, a preventive or a treating agent for vascular disorders, hypertension and renal disorders with the use of such a transportation system.

  • Publication number: 20110257202
Abstract: Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for treating chronic kidney disease and/or a metabolic imbalance. Specifically exemplified herein are methods involving the coadministration of a RAS inhibitor with a conjunctive agent that improves endothelial NO or endothelial function. Also disclosed are methods of treating a patient exhibiting symptoms of a stage of chronic kidney disease and at least one symptom of a metabolic imbalance, such as one or more diagnostic criteria of the metabolic syndrome.

  • Patent number: 7819363
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the environment of an internal airplane space during loading and unloading of cargo, a cargo tent for use in such transfers and a method of transfer. A collapsible cargo tent is located on a cargo transfer platform at one end of a mobile cargo lift. The collapsible cargo tent may include a collapsible frame and a cargo loader thermal curtain with a vertical strip curtain in an opening at either end. Also, the cargo tent may include a conformable flexible shield at strip curtain opening. The conformable flexible shield engages the fuselage at the door of an aircraft to form an environmental seal and the cargo loader thermal curtain forms a thermal air lock at the door such that cargo may pass through the airlock with the door open and without exposing the cargo bay to external environment.

  • Publication number: 20090206201
Abstract: An improved crew rest area for a freighter airplane. The crew rest structure extends into the stay out zone between the crew or supernumerary accommodations and cargo areas and has one of more collapsible or crushable structures. The collapsible structures allow the areas in the stay out zones to collapse or be displaced when subjected to crash loads without impinging on the crew or supernumerary seating areas. The collapsible wall members or panels can be hinged, slidable, bendable in an accordion-type manner, or the like.
