  • Publication number: 20100283496
Abstract: A system and method for measuring recombination lifetime of a photoconductor or semiconductor material in real time and without physically contacting the material involving positioning the sample material between a transmitter and a receiver so that electromagnetic signals, preferably radio frequency signals, traveling from the transmitter to the receiver pass through the sample material. The electromagnetic signals are modulated as they pass through the sample material depending on the carrier density and conductivity of the sample material. The modulated electromagnetic signals received by the receiver are then analyzed to determine the carrier recombination lifetime of the sample material.

  • Publication number: 20100251345
Abstract: A method is presented for selecting an HTTP authentication scheme at a client computer. A request message is sent from the client computer to a server computer to access information on the server computer. In response, the client computer receives a response message from the server computer. The response message includes an HTTP header that includes a first scheme identifier, indicating a first HTTP authentication scheme and a second scheme identifier, indicating a second HTTP authentication scheme. If the client computer does not support the second HTTP authentication scheme, the client computer uses the first HTTP authentication scheme when sending another HTTP message to the server computer. If the client computer supports the second HTTP authentication scheme, the client computer uses the second HTTP authentication scheme when sending another HTTP message to the server computer.

  • Publication number: 20100146949
Abstract: A vehicle power supply system comprises an internal combustion engine (1) and a steam generator (2) arranged in a “closed system”. Water, or another suitable working fluid, is supplied to the steam generator (2) whereupon it is heated using exhaust heat from the internal combustion engine (1). The steam that is generated is stored in a storage tank (3) until a later time, e.g. when the internal combustion engine (1) is not running, whereupon the steam is used to provide heat and/or power to vehicle. For example, the steam can be used to drive a generator (5), via an expander (4), to provide electricity for powering various electrical systems within the vehicle. Additionally, the hot exhaust (7) from the expander (4) can be supplied to a radiator (8) to provide heating for the vehicle cabin.

  • Publication number: 20100080778
Abstract: The present invention relates to a stem cell expansion factor, and to a method for enhancing hematopoietic stem cell expansion by direct delivery of a protein in the cell and which protein is able to cross cell membrane. The method comprises directly delivering in a HSC an amino acid sequence having the activity of a peptide encoded by a Hoxb4 nucleotide sequence. Once delivered, the amino acid sequence is functionally active in the hematopoietic stem cell and enhances expansion thereof. The amino acid sequence may is a HOXB4 or HOXA4 protein.

  • Publication number: 20100035311
Abstract: We describe the detailed production, biochemical characterisation and storage of CYP74 enzymes, including CYP74C3, a recombinant plant cytochrome P450 enzyme with hydroperoxide lyase (HPL) activity from Medicago truncatula, and CYP74A1, an Allene Oxide Synthase (AOS), from Arabidopsis thaliana. Steady state kinetic parameters, substrate and product specificities, Rz, extinction coefficient, haem content, and new ligands are disclosed. We show, on the basis of gel filtration, sedimentation velocity (sedimentation coefficient distribution) and sedimentation equilibrium (molecular weight) analyses that the CYP74 enzymes have low enzyme activity as a detergent-free, water-soluble, monomer. The enzyme activity can be completely restored by reactivation with detergent micelles, but not detergent monomers.

  • Publication number: 20090320537
Abstract: A tamper evident security lock includes a tamper evident security system to indicate whether the tamper evident security lock has been improperly accessed. The tamper evident security system includes a tamper evident security module that invokes different sets of logic to generate a sequence of characters displayable through a viewing window incorporated into the tamper evident security lock. The tamper evident security system may also include a processor activatable by an actuator in communication with a shackle or other component of the tamper evident security lock. The shackle works in conjunction with the actuator to activate the processor, and when the processor is activated, the tamper evident security system generates the sequence of characters. The sequence of characters may change each time the processor is activated so that a person authorized to unlock the tamper evident security lock can identify whether the tamper evident security lock was improperly accessed.
