Publication number: 20230041702Abstract: A data processing system includes a plurality of processor cores each supported by a respective one of a plurality of vertical cache hierarchies. Based on receiving on a system fabric a cache injection request requesting injection of a data into a cache line identified by a target real address, the data is written into a cache in a first vertical cache hierarchy among the plurality of vertical cache hierarchies. Based on a value in a field of the cache injection request, a distribute field is set in a directory entry of the first vertical cache hierarchy. Upon eviction of the cache line the first vertical cache hierarchy, a determination is made whether the distribute field is set. Based on determining the distribute field is set, a lateral castout of the cache line from the first vertical cache hierarchy to a second vertical cache hierarchy is performed.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 4, 2021Publication date: February 9, 2023Inventors: DEREK E. WILLIAMS, GUY L. GUTHRIE, Bernard C. Drerup, Hugh Shen, Alexander Michael Taft, Luke Murray, Richard Nicholas

Patent number: 10541722Abstract: Disclosed herein is a design, simulation, and hardware build of a photonic compressed sensing Nyquist folding receiver that is able to directly undersample wideband RF signals and detect the original Nyquist zone and frequency information. According to an exemplary embodiment, this is achieved by generating a frequency modulated optical impulse train for directly undersampling the RF environment at the antenna. The impulse train undersamples the signals using an optical modulator configuration at 1550 nm and collects the detected samples in a low pass interpolation filter which is subsequently processed to extract the undersampled signals.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2018Date of Patent: January 21, 2020Assignee: The United States of America, as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Richard Nicholas Shmel, Phillip E. Patent number: 9617018Abstract: The process validates measurement data that are consistent with the current orbit or allowable maneuvers for Earth-orbiting satellites. The validated data may be processed to detect both large and small maneuvers; large maneuvers that may have been rejected by standard data validation process and small maneuvers that may have been missed. Large maneuvers may present as “trends” in the residuals above the noise threshold from multiple sensors. Small maneuvers may present as a deviation from the expected orbit. The OD engine is suitably configured (as per normal operation) to enforce data reduction on any outliers (e.g. >3 sigma). The maneuver estimation routines employ an objective function for selection of maneuver estimates that combines a residual fit to the current orbit and maneuver, orbit consistency and a penalty for validated but unused data (data that is rejected by the OD engine).Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2015Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Assignee: Rincon Research CorporationInventors: Michele Kubis Wallner, Richard Nicholas Wallner, Douglas Edward Cather

Patent number: 9208027Abstract: Address error detection including a method that receives a read address corresponding to a read location in a memory. Data is read from the read location in the memory. The data is transformed at a computer based on the data and the read address to produce read data. Error correction codes (ECC) bits associated the read data are read from the read location in the memory. The ECC bits were generated based on the write data. It is determined whether the read data has an address error responsive to the read data and the ECC bits associated with the write data. An error is generated in response to determining that the read address has an address error.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2014Date of Patent: December 8, 2015Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Richard Nicholas

Patent number: 9170639Abstract: An approach for saving power in a memory subsystem that uses memory access idle timer to enable low power mode and memory scrub operation within computing system has been provided. The computing system determines that a memory subsystem is switched out of low power operation mode due to a memory scrub operation. In addition, the computing system bypasses the low power operation mode of an idle timer of the memory subsystem such that the memory subsystem is returned to the low power operation mode upon completion of the memory scrub operation. The computing system further sets a scrub flag of the memory subsystem to a high state, and clears the scrub flag to a low state to track if the idle timer should be bypassed.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2013Date of Patent: October 27, 2015Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Joab D. Henderson, Richard Nicholas, Stephen J. Powell, Kenneth L. Wright
