  • Patent number: 10727012
Abstract: A molded case circuit interrupter advantageously employs a circuitry component that is situated adjacent a rear exterior surface of the molded case of the molded case circuit interrupter. Previous circuit interrupters have sometimes employed a non-conductive backsheet of a nominal thickness of 0.062 inches that was adhered to the rear surface of the molded case circuit interrupter in order to electrically isolate screws, posts, and the like that were mounted to and that were exposed on the rear portion of a molded case thereof. The disclosed and claimed concept provides a circuitry component in place of or in addition to the back sheet, with the circuitry component including flexible ribbons having electrical conductors that extend through holes formed in the molded case and that are electrically connected with electronic components that are situated within the interior of the molded case.

  • Patent number: 10128073
Abstract: A thermal trip assembly is for an electrical switching apparatus. The electrical switching apparatus includes a housing, separable contacts enclosed by the housing, an operating mechanism for opening and closing the separable contacts, and a number of shunts. The thermal trip assembly includes a load conductor, a bimetal adapted to cooperate with the operating mechanism to open the separable contacts in response to a trip condition, and a bypass heater element structured to be electrically connected to the shunts. The bypass heater element directs the flow of electric current to at least partially bypass the bimetal.

  • Patent number: 10128069
Abstract: A debris barrier is for an electrical switching apparatus. The electrical switching apparatus includes separable contacts and an arc chute. The separable contacts generate debris when tripping open in response to an electrical fault. The arc chute has a plurality of splitter plates each having an edge portion and a distal portion located opposite and distal the edge portion. The debris barrier includes a first leg, a second leg, and a middle portion connecting the first leg and the second leg. The middle portion is coupled to one of the separable contacts. At least one of the first leg and the second leg has a first barrier portion and a second barrier portion extending therefrom. The first barrier portion is located proximate the distal portion. The second barrier portion extends from the first barrier portion toward the edge portion in order to redirect the debris toward the edge portion.

  • Patent number: 9842715
Abstract: Electrical switching apparatus and strain relief assemblies therefor are described herein. In one exemplary, non-limiting embodiment, a strain relief assembly includes a cover and a base, each of which include a number of grooves structured to receive a number of wires. Each groove has a first side and a second side, where the second side is located opposite the first side. Furthermore, located on the first side and/or the second side are a number of protrusions. The grooves and the protrusions serve to secure the number of wires within the strain relief assembly such that, if a force is applied to an end of the wire, the protrusions work to retain the wires with the assembly.
