  • Publication number: 20230127837
Abstract: An apparatus may include a regulated power converter, a control engine configured to control the regulated power converter based upon a regulation control parameter, a period detection system and a parameter control system. The period detection system may be configured to monitor a signal to detect transient events at an output of the regulated power converter, wherein the transient events include a first transient event and a second transient event after the first transient event. The period detection system may be configured to determine, in response to the second transient event, a transient event period between the first transient event and the second transient event. The period detection system may be configured to determine transient event period information based upon the transient event period. The parameter control system may be configured to set the regulation control parameter to a value determined based upon the transient event period information.

  • Patent number: 11502595
Abstract: An isolated switched-mode power converter converts power from an input source into power for an output load. Power switches within a primary-side power stage control the amount of power input to the power converter and, ultimately, provided to the output load. A digital controller on the secondary side of the power converter generates signals to control the power switches. This controller also senses a rectified voltage on the secondary side of the power converter and uses this sensed voltage to detect fault conditions of the primary side. For example, the sensed rectified voltage is used to detect undervoltage or overvoltage conditions of the input power source of the power converter, or faulty power switches within the primary-side power stage.

  • Patent number: 11196342
Abstract: According to an embodiment, a multiphase regulator includes a plurality of output phases each of which is operable to deliver a phase current through a separate inductor to a load connected to the output phases via the inductors and an output capacitor. A controller is operable to regulate a voltage delivered to the load by adjusting the phase currents delivered to the load by the output phases, monitor the phase currents delivered to the load by the output phases, test the output phases in a predetermined sequence, and determine if the phase currents respond in a predetermined way.

  • Patent number: 10601333
Abstract: An isolated switched-mode power converter converts power from an input source into power for an output load. Power switches within a primary-side power stage control the amount of power input to the power converter and, ultimately, provided to the output load. A digital controller on the secondary side of the power converter generates signals to control the power switches. This generation is based upon closed-loop (feedback) control as well as feedforward control. The feedforward control compensates for variations in the voltage of the input source. The input voltage is estimated by sensing a rectified voltage at a node between a secondary winding of the isolation transformer and an output filter. The feedforward compensation modifies the generated switch control signals based upon the sensed rectified voltage.

A controller is operable to regulate a voltage delivered to the load by adjusting the phase currents delivered to the load by the output phases, monitor the phase currents delivered to the load by the output phases, determine if the monitored phase currents indicate any of the individual output phases, any of the individual inductors or the output capacitor are faulty even if the total current delivered to the load is within specified limits, synchronously switch the output phases which cause ripples in the phase currents, and detect if any of the phase currents fail to have a ripple current pattern that matches an expected ripple current pattern.

  • Patent number: 10338625
Abstract: A voltage regulation system for providing power to a load is provided. The voltage regulation system includes a voltage regulator operable to: set an operating voltage of the load at a first voltage level which corresponds to a first voltage requirement of the load; receive a second voltage requirement of the load which is different than the first voltage requirement; produce a voltage ramp signal which transitions from the first voltage level to a second voltage level which corresponds to the second voltage requirement at a defined ramp rate; and ramp the operating voltage from the first voltage level to the second voltage level based on the voltage ramp signal and at the same ramp rate as the voltage ramp signal, but with a lag between the voltage ramp signal and the ramp in the operating voltage.
