  • Patent number: 7536629
Abstract: Construction of LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) codes using GRS (Generalized Reed-Solomon) code. A novel approach is presented by which a GRS code may be employed to generate a wide variety of types of LDPC codes. Such GRS based LDPC codes may be employed within various types of transceiver devices implemented within communication systems. This approach may be employed to generate GRS based LDPC codes particular designed for various application arenas. As one example, such a GRS based LDPC code may be specifically designed for use in communication systems that operate in accordance with any standards and/or recommended practices of the IEEE P802.3an (10GBASE-T) Task Force.

  • Publication number: 20090122329
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and apparatus for creating an interactive interface allowing a user to create a virtual design on-screen. Specifications of the design created by the user may be subsequently transmitted to a server for high-resolution rendering and printing on an adhesive appliqué or other material adapted to receive print. In some embodiments, the created product is adapted to fit a particular device, such as a cell phone, laptop, personal digital assistant, snowboard, boat, or motor vehicle. Alternatively, the printed product can be adhesively applied to a portion of a wall, a window, or upon the side of a building. In one embodiment, the interactive interface allows the user to create their own personalized product by using a combination of images, colors, text, and shapes, specified for a particular CAD that will print onto an adhesive skin. In this manner, the adhesive skin can be made to look exactly like the finished product of a personally customized design presented on a computer screen.

  • Patent number: 7515642
Abstract: LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) coded 128 DSQ (Double Square QAM) constellation modulation and its associated labeling. A novel means is introduced by which a constellation may be arranged and mapping in its symbols may be determined to provide for improved performance. One application area in which this may be employed is transmission over twisted pair (typically copper) cabling existent within data centers of various networks. The operation of the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet local area networks currently being used (as well as those currently under development) would benefit greatly by employing the various principles presented herein. When this novel approach of an LDPC coded 128 DSQ constellation modulation combined with TH (Tomlinson-Harashima) preceding is employed within a communication device at a transmitter end of a communication channel (i.e., in a transmitter and/or a transceiver), the overall operation of a communication system may improve significantly when compared to prior techniques.

  • Patent number: 7492747
Abstract: The present invention relates methods for patching WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network) communication devices and corresponding WWAN communication devices, integrated circuit chips and computer-readable media. The WWAN communication device includes a first processor, a second processor and a memory. The first processor is arranged to process patches updating software running on the WWAN communication device. The second processor is arranged to provide a first set of the patches to the first processor. The memory stores a second set of the patches to be processed by the first processor. The second processor is further arranged to send a patch end signal to the first processor, the patch end signal causing the first processor to stop processing of patches provided by the second processor. The first processor is further arranged to process the patches stored in the memory independently of the patch end signal.

  • Publication number: 20090029133
Abstract: Coating of a cosmetic finish applied to a metallic surface is provided to prevent the cosmetic finish from oxidizing and tarnishing. A clear adhesion promoting layer with a thickness of 5 to 10 microns is applied to the cosmetically finished metallic surface. A clear wear resistant layer with a thickness of 25 to 35 microns is subsequently applied over the clear adhesion promoting layer. In one variation, the metallic surface is first painted after which a portion of the painted surface is removed to expose the cosmetic finish. In another variation, the metallic surface has a raised portion representing e.g. a logo, emblem or other feature. In this case, the paint and a small amount of the metal substrate from the raised portion are removed to expose the cosmetic finish.

  • Patent number: 7401283
Abstract: Amplifying magnitude metric of received signals during iterative decoding of LDPC code and LDPC coded modulation. By appropriately selecting a metric coefficient value that is used to calculate the initial conditions when decoding LDPC coded signals, a significant reduction in BER may be achieved at certain SNRs. The appropriate selection of the metric coefficient value may be performed depending on the particular SNR at which a communication system is operating. By adjusting this metric coefficient value according to the given LDPC code, modulation, and noise variance, the overall performance of the decoding may be significantly improved. The convergence speed is slowed down so that the decoder will not go to the wrong codeword, and the moving range of the outputs of the decoder is restricted so that the output will not oscillate too much and will eventually move to the correct codeword.

  • Patent number: 7376122
Abstract: Systems and methods for routing packets by nodes in an ad hoc network in accordance with a link quality source routing protocol are disclosed. Route discovery, route maintenance, and metric maintenance are designed to propagate and keep current link quality measurements. Metric maintenance includes a reactive approach for links that a node is currently using to route packets, and a proactive mechanism for all links. Nodes are configured to include a send buffer, a maintenance buffer, a request table, link quality metric modules, and preferably a neighbor cache and a link cache. The invention allows for asymmetric links in the network. The invention may be implemented within a virtual protocol interlayer between the link and network layers. The invention may employ any particular link quality metrics, including metrics based on probing techniques as well as metrics based on knowledge gained in other ways.

  • Patent number: 6981087
Abstract: A two wire serial bus is connected between different circuit boards in a complex electrical system. The two wire serial bus may be used to receive status information about each of the circuit boards in the system. A master control processor on one of the circuit boards controls which of the other circuit boards are active on the serial bus. Each of the non-master circuit boards includes a series of switches that electrically isolate or connect portions of the two wire serial bus from one another. Through the series of switches, both the master control processor and processors local to each of the other circuit boards may simultaneously access different portions of the serial bus.

Abstract: A network device includes redundant buses, redundant master controllers, and slave controllers. Each of the master controllers connects to a corresponding one of the buses. One of the master controllers acts as an active master and the other master controllers act as standby masters. The active master commences a bus cycle that includes an address interval and a data interval, provides a destination address on the corresponding bus during the address interval, and transmits or receives a command or data during the data interval. The slave controllers connect to the bus, detect commencement of the bus cycle, sample the destination address from the bus a predetermined amount of time after commencement of the address interval, and transmit or receive a command or data during the data interval.
