  • Publication number: 20160226713
Abstract: A device receives an instruction to authorize a relationship corresponding to communication over a first data connection with a peripheral display unit, and receives authentication data from the peripheral display unit over another data connection. The device then establishes a connection with the peripheral display unit over the first data connection, including providing the authentication information to the peripheral display unit. The device monitors a battery charge level and battery-usage patterns and provides alerts in accordance therewith. The device displays a reconfiguration interface for configuring the user interfaces of one or more peripheral display units, and detects a request to configure an interface of a peripheral. In response to detecting the request, the device displays an updated representation of the peripheral interface, and afterwards transmits instructions to the peripheral to display the user interface in accordance with the request.

  • Patent number: 9317878
Abstract: Information about a product advertised on a web page is presented separately, but concurrently, with the content of the web page, to avoid having to navigate away from the web page. The information may be automatically presented in a banner that is displayed adjacent the content of the web page. Controls on the banner initiate the display of further information, and/or enable purchase of the product, while maintaining the web page content in view on the browser. Alternatively, the display of the product information may be triggered by user selection of a link associated with that product. The information about the product may appear in an overlay sheet displayed in front of the original web page. The user can interact with controls on the sheet to initiate purchase or download of the product, or can dismiss the overlay sheet to continue viewing the content of the web page.

  • Publication number: 20150350147
Abstract: Methods and devices display an interactive notification element at an electronic device. The method comprises detecting an occurrence of an event associated with an application. In response to detecting the occurrence of the event, a notification element is displayed. A user of the device inputs a sequence of one or more gestures to reveal actions he can take in response to the notification element. The device then displays a plurality of action option UI elements, the selection of each action option UI element causing the application to perform a different action.

  • Publication number: 20150346958
Abstract: A multifunction device generates a display of a first view of an application-centric library associated with an application. The application-centric library has content rules that limit files to those that include content compatible with the application. The first view includes a representation of a first file compatible with the application and added to the application-centric library. The instructions also include: while displaying the first view, detecting first inputs; in response to detecting the first inputs, generating a display of a second view comprising a representation of a second file not added to the application-centric library; while displaying the second view, detecting second inputs interpreted as a selection of the representation of the second file; and in response to detecting the second inputs, in accordance with a determination that the second file is compatible with the application, adding the second file to the application-centric library.

  • Publication number: 20150350140
Abstract: Techniques for live location sharing are described. A first mobile device and a second mobile device can communicate with one another using an IM program. The first mobile device can receive a user input to share a location of the first mobile device in the IM program. Sharing the location can include causing the second mobile device to display a location of the first mobile device in an IM program user interface on the second mobile device. Duration of sharing the location can be user-configurable. The second mobile device may or may not share a location of the second device for display in the IM program executing on the first mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20150346929
Abstract: As computer processing power has increased and mobile devices have proliferated, with users often own multiple devices and utilize larger numbers of tabs in the browsers on their devices. In order to enhance user experience with these developments, tab organization is improved through tab scrolling and tab overviews. Further, users often utilize private browsing sessions when they desire their device to retain less information about their browsing history. Switching between private and regular browsing sessions and having to open, close, and otherwise manage separate sessions can be cumbersome. Switching between private browsing sessions and regular browsing sessions can be performed in an efficient manner that indicates to the user the type of session they are currently in and whether they would like to retain a set of tabs or favorite web pages for a private browsing session.

  • Patent number: 9116596
Abstract: Some embodiments provide tools that allow a user to share content on one device with multiple other users using different devices. To facilitate the sharing operations, the content sharing tools allow the user to (1) create a shared stream that represents a set of shared content and (2) invite one or more recipients to subscribe to the shared stream. When a recipient subscribes to the shared stream, the set of content is streamed across one or more of his or her devices. The content sharing tools of some embodiments can be used to exchange comments regarding the stream's content.

  • Patent number: 9019309
Abstract: Shadows, reflections, and other image effects for use with high-resolution display screens may be quickly and efficiently generated to maximize resources available for other applications and programs. These effects may be quickly and efficiently created by identifying a region surrounding an image, distorting the image in the region, applying a uniform blur and/or other effect to the distorted image, and then undoing the distortion. By selectively applying effects to distorted images, it is possible to create the appearance of a non-uniformly applied blur and other effects without using the computing resources required to actually calculate and apply a non-uniform blur on a pixel-by-pixel basis. Systems, methods, and media are provided.

  • Patent number: 8924585
Abstract: A first device and a second device communicate with each other using a first communications protocol over a first communications media. The first device detects a need to modify a communications bandwidth with the second device based on an operating condition of the first device at a point in time. The first device negotiates with the second device to identify a second communications protocol that is suitable for the operating condition based on a set of one or more rules associated with the first device. Both the first and second devices switch, without user intervention, from the first communications protocol to the second communications protocol to communicate with the second device using the second communications protocol over a second communications media.

  • Publication number: 20140282011
Abstract: An electronic device with a display and, optionally, a touch-sensitive surface obtains a collection of media items. In some embodiments, the device determines one or more patterns in the collection based on a comparison between properties of sequentially adjacent items and divides the collection into multiple events that includes a plurality of multi-item events. In some embodiments, the device receives a first request to display a first portion of the collection organized in accordance with a first detailed-granularity level and, in response to the first request, displaying a first plurality of representations of the items. The device receives a second request to display a second portion of the collection organized in accordance with a respective overview-granularity level that corresponds to multiple detailed-granularity levels and, in response to the second request, displays a second plurality of representations of the items.

  • Publication number: 20140240539
Abstract: This disclosure pertains to systems, methods, and computer readable medium for mapping particular user interactions, e.g., gestures, to the input parameters of various image processing routines, e.g., image filters, in a way that provides a seamless, dynamic, and intuitive experience for both the user and the software developer. Such techniques may handle the processing of both “relative” gestures, i.e., those gestures having values dependent on how much an input to the device has changed relative to a previous value of the input, and “absolute” gestures, i.e., those gestures having values dependent only on the instant value of the input to the device. Additionally, inputs to the device beyond user-input gestures may be utilized as input parameters to one or more image processing routines. For example, the device's orientation, acceleration, and/or position in three-dimensional space may be used as inputs to particular image processing routines.
