Abstract: Described is a method of making and using an adherent indicia strip on a crankshaft pulley of a piston engine to adjust engine valves. The method includes cutting the strip to a length sufficient to exactly encircle the crankshaft pulley; placing midpoint marks onto a visible outside surface of the strip; engaging the strip with a peripheral edge of the crankshaft pulley while aligning the strip for corresponding rotational positions of the crankshaft pulley; and guiding rotation and positioning of the crankshaft and camshaft by the midpoint marks on the indicia strip in order to more easily and accurately adjust the engine's valves.

Abstract: A surgical clip applier and methods for applying surgical clips to a vessel, duct, shunt, etc., during a surgical procedure are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a surgical clip applier is provided having a housing with a trigger movably coupled thereto and an elongate shaft extending therefrom with opposed jaws formed on a distal end thereof. The trigger is adapted to advance a clip to position the clip between the jaws, and to move the jaws from an open position to a closed position to crimp the clip positioned therebetween.

Abstract: A gas spring that has particular advantage in a vehicle safety system which is infrequently used, includes a safety switch to monitor pressure of compressed gas within a cylinder. Should the pressure in the cylinder drop below a predetermined minimum, a switch component moves to break an electric circuit. A control can then determine that the pressure is insufficient and a warning can be actuated.

Abstract: A wireless communication device includes a mode wherein an incoming communication is placed on hold and a verbal response message is sent to the initiator of the communication. A non-audible tactile or visual indicator is provided at the device indicative of the presence of an incoming communication.

Abstract: A cargo carrier includes at least one rail and a sled. The sled slidably engages the rail. One end of rail has a downward sloping portion. When the sled slides along the rail the sled will tilt when the rollers engages the sloping portion of the rail. While in the tilted position, cargo can be unloaded from the sled.

Abstract: Provided is a laminated body comprising a substrate to be ground and a support, where the substrate may be ground to a very small (thin) thickness and can then be separated from the support without damaging the substrate. One embodiment is a laminated body comprising a substrate to be ground, a curable silicone adhesive layer in contact with the substrate to be ground, a photothermal conversion layer comprising a light absorbing agent and a heat decomposable resin, and a light transmitting support. After grinding the substrate surface which is opposite that in contact with the adhesive layer, the laminated body is irradiated through the light transmitting layer and the photothermal conversion layer decomposes to separate the substrate and the light transmitting support.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are provided for a media platform. One method includes receiving DMA requests for connecting media data traffic to DMA slots of a DMA memory module. Available DMA slots are determined from a pool of available DMA slots and allocated for media data traffic. DMA slots are released to the pool of available DMA slots when a DMA slot is no longer being used. The method further includes using a TMC proxy to connect media data traffic between the DMA memory module and a DSP software module based on assigned DMA slots.

Abstract: A profiled gasket for sealing tunnel segment joints, which is placed in a receiving groove between segments. The gasket is made of a body of rubber or an elastically deformable synthetic material having an external surface coating which improves the physical properties of the gasket. The coating can be a one-part, room temperature curing hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber base coating.

Abstract: A method of modeling soft errors in a logic circuit uses two separate current sources inserted at the source and drain of a device to simulate a single event upset (SEU) caused by, e.g., an alpha-particle strike. In an nfet implementation the current flows from the source or drain toward the body of the device. Current waveforms having known amplitudes are injected at the current sources while simulating operation of the logic circuit and the state of the logic circuit is determined from the simulated operation. The amplitudes of the current waveforms can be independently adjusted. The simulator monitors the state of device and makes a log entry when a transition occurs. The process may be repeated for other devices in the logic circuit to provide an overall characterization of the susceptibility of the circuit to soft errors.

The strategic position of the door mover (40) and the interlock device (42) minimizes the distance between the sill member (34, 78) and the operative components for moving the doors. Abstract: The invention uses recombinant parvoviruses, and particularly recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) to deliver genes and DNA sequences for gene therapy following manipulation of the therapeutic virus for packaging and transport. The invention delivers therapeutic viral vectors via rAAV affixed to support matrixes (i.e., sutures, surgically implantable materials, grafts, and the like).

Abstract: Optical devices using reflective polarizers and, in particular, diffusely reflective polarizers are provided. Many of the optical devices utilize the diffusely reflecting and specularly transmitting properties of diffusely reflecting polarizers to enhance their optical characteristics. The optical devices include a lighting system which uses a reflector formed from a diffusely reflecting polarizer attached to a specular reflector. Another optical device is a display apparatus which uses a diffusely reflecting polarizer layer in combination with a turning lens which folds shallow angle light toward a light modulating layer. Other optical devices exploit the depolarizing characteristics of a diffusely reflecting polarizer when reflecting light. Still other optical devices use diffusely reflecting polarizers to recycle light and improve display illumination.

Abstract: A spraying assembly is provided for delivering a coating material to a surface. The assembly of an embodiment comprises a mobile support structure, a mixing tank coupled to the support structure and a mixing device connected to the mixing tank. A mixture dispensing assembly has a conduit coupled to the mixing tank and a dispenser through which a flowable mixture is dispensed. The assembly has an hydraulic system having at least one closed hydraulic loop, a hydraulically-driven air compressor coupled to the hydraulic system, and a hydraulic pump assembly coupled to the closed loop of the hydraulic system. The hydraulic pump assembly is configured to pump the mixture at a selected flow rate from the mixing tank to the mixture dispensing assembly, and a remotely-actuated flow control assembly configured to control the flow rate of the mixture to the mixture dispensing assembly.

Abstract: A method and system to detect currents in the saturation region of a current transformer for a circuit breaker is disclosed. An example method is sensing a fault condition with a current transformer in a circuit breaker. The characteristic curve of the current transformer in a saturation mode is determined based on peak current. A current is received on the transformer. A secondary current is output from the transformer. It is determined whether the secondary current is indicative of a fault current in the saturation mode of the transformer. The breaker is tripped if the secondary current is indicative of a fault current.

Abstract: Improved methods and devices for treatment of rectal prolapse are provided. A suturing console for suturing the rectal fascia at, to, or about the sacral vertebral fascia is disclosed. A method of repairing prolapsed rectum via a vaginal incision or perineal incision is also disclosed.

Abstract: Bipolar prostheses which include various structures and other techniques for optimizing material wear and mechanical strength properties. Such prostheses feature, for example, improved resistance to polyethylene wear while also reducing potential for dislocation of the femoral stem from the prosthesis. Such techniques and structures include varying wear resistance and mechanical strength treatment in various components of the prostheses or portions of those components as desired to improve, accentuate or optimize wear performance and dislocation reduction, locking ring structural features, structures for retaining locking rings in the bipolar prosthesis shell, and structures for limiting or reducing movement or rotation of locking rings and liners in bipolar prosthesis shells.

Abstract: An inspection system that forms material sensitive X-ray images of items under inspection. The images are decomposed into basis function images using basis functions representative of materials of interest. The decomposed images may be processed separately to detect concentrations of a material of interest corresponding to one or more of the basis functions. When operated in this mode, the inspection system may be used in applications such as material sorting or security screening. At least one basis function is selected to distinguish a material of interest from other materials likely contained with the item, allowing one of the basis function images to be analyzed to obtain information about a specific material of interest. The images may be automatically analyzed or may be superimposed for display with different visual characteristics assigned to the components associated with each basis function for analysis by a human operator.

Abstract: A variable air circulation system for the cab enclosure of an off-highway vehicle is disclosed and described. The system provides for adjustment of the ratio between fresh air circulation and recirculation of cab air. Fresh air is introduced into the cab through a fresh air inlet having a fresh air filter therein. The air inlet leads to a circulation conduit. When a cab door is opened, a valve to the conduit is opened. When the door is closed, the air pulse created in the cab is effective, through the valve, to dislodge dust and dirt from the filter.
