  • Patent number: 5039278
Abstract: Air control mechanism within a power turbine section of a gas turbine engine. The power turbine section includes a rotor and at least one variable pitch propulsor blade. The propulsor blade is coupled to and extends radially outwardly of the rotor. A first annular fairing is rotatable with the propulsor blade and interposed between the propulsor blade and the rotor. A second fairing is located longitudinally adjacent to the first fairing. The first fairing and the second fairing are differentially rotatable. The air control mechanism includes a platform fixedly coupled to a radially inner end of the propulsor blade. The platform is generally positioned in a first opening and a first fairing. The platform and the first fairing define an outer space. In a first position corresponding with a first propulsor blade pitch, the platform is substantially conformal with the first fairing.

  • Patent number: 4893332
Abstract: A low-powered remote sensor is achieved by capacitively isolating a long duration perpetual timer which is powered by removing inductively coupled AC power from telephone lines or other long lines. Three embodiments are described using this concept. The first embodiment is a remote utility sensor designed to periodically dial and transmit data to a central site via telephone lines and report its functionality on a periodic basis. The second embodiment of the remote utility sensor is used for reporting utility usage for common utilities such as gas meters, water meters, electric meters and water softeners on a periodic basis over telephone lines. The third embodiment is a remote utility sensor which continually records utility usage and can be read by a portable recording device through a remote cabled interface.

  • Patent number: 4713471
Abstract: A method of producing benzoyloxyphenoxy pentanoic acid esters comprising the steps of: (a) reacting a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein A is as defined with a compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein X is as defined, in the presence of a base selected from carbonate salts of alkaline earth or alkali metals, a catalyst and a ketonic solvent to produce a 3-(4-benzyloxyphenoxy)-2-butanone; and (b) reacting said 3-(4-benzyloxyphenoxy)-2-butanone with a dialkyl carbonate of the formula (RO).sub.2 CO, wherein R is an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, in the presence of a suitable base and an organic solvent, to form alkyl 4-(4-benzyloxyphenoxy)-3-oxopentanoate.

  • Patent number: 4691344
Abstract: A data transmitter unit (22) for transmitting data over conventional telephone lines (26) from a remote location (24) to a central location (28). The data transmitter unit (22) derives its operational power supply from the telephone lines (26) to which it is interconnected, thereby doing away with the requirement for a separate power supply. The transmitter unit (22) includes ring detect circuitry (46) for detecting a ring signal on the telephone line (26). The ring detect circuitry (46) cooperates with the stand by power supply (38) charged by a charging circuit (36) to energize a logic module (44) and analog converter circuitry (40, 42) which is interconnected to sensors (30, 32). The logic module (44) controls operation of a tone generator (48) which transmits frequency signals representative of the input received from the sensors (30, 32) over the telephone lines (20, 26) to a central location (28).

  • Patent number: 4222675
Abstract: A low profile keyboard operating system in which a generally orthogonal matrix of mechanically movable row and column matrix members is disposed over the keyboard to be operated with the intersections of the matrix members adjacent to the keys, the arrangement being such that actuation of only one member at an intersection will not operate a key while operation of both members at an intersection actuates a key.

  • Patent number: 4032369
Abstract: A method for bringing a quenching medium into contact with both the inner and outer wall surfaces of metallic tubing, characterized in that a quenching liquid is fed into the interior of the tubing and pressurized, followed by quenching of the outer wall surface, preferably by immersion in a tank containing a quenching liquid. Pressurization of the quenching liquid fed into the interior of the tubing insures uniform wall contact of the liquid around the inner wall surface and along the entire length of the tubing. This brings about uniform hardness characteristics throughout the thickness of the tube walls and along its entire length and eliminates or reduces quench-crack problems inherent in prior art quenching systems wherein the quenching medium within the tubing is not pressurized.
