    Abstract: A flexible container for medical solutions is provided that includes first and second film sheets sealed together along multiple sides so as to form a pouch having an open end. An end port member is located between and sealed to the first and second film sheets near the open end of the pouch to enclose the interior of the container. The end port member has at least one integrally-formed access port for fluid communication between the exterior and the interior of the flexible container. A portion of the first and second film sheets extend beyond the end port member and are sealed together along the edges of the extended portions so as to form a protective cover for the access ports. The protective cover is detachable.

    Abstract: A protection system is provided for the transfer of toxic liquid from a bulk container through a first conduit to a connector for a delivery device such as a dosage syringe. A second conduit connects the connector to a waste receptacle. The first and second conduits penetrate the closed end of a flexible barrier bag. The bag is initially retracted from the bulk container to allow manipulation of the bulk container. The bag is subsequently extended over and sealed around the bulk container and waste receptacle to protect the health care provider during liquid transfer to the deliver device.

    Abstract: An improved armboard includes receptacles for receiving and holding a medical device to be used in conjunction with the treatment of a patient. The patient's forearm is immobilized on the armboard, a sensor associated with the medical device is inserted into the patient, with a side channel of the armboard holding the medical device and a cable extending from the sensor to a fiber optic connector received in a modular unit stored in a suitable cavity and optical cable channels extending from opposite ends thereof are appropriately sized to prevent misinsertion of the modular unit into the armboard. The armboard is formed from polystyrene foam, and thus is lightweight, disposable after a single use, and the cavities provided therein are appropriately sized to receive and retain the components of the medical device associated therewith.

    Abstract: A device for storing and delivering a sensor through a catheter. A sensor delivery device (10, 10') includes an elongate tube (20), which is attached to a rigid housing (22, 22'). A sensor (12), stored within a sterile environment comprising an interior of the sensor delivery device, has an attached signal line (16) that extends along the longitudinal axis of the delivery device and through its proximal end. The proximal end is open when the sensor is in its stored position. An eversible sheath (34) extends between the rigid housing and the signal line, sealingly separating the sterile environment (48) in which the sensor is stored from the open end of the rigid housing. To use the sensor, the signal line is moved into the rigid housing, causing the eversible sheath to turn inside out as the sensor is advanced through the catheter into its use position. The protection afforded by the eversible sheath permits the sensor to be withdrawn through the catheter and then reinserted without introducing contamination.

A tubing set of the system preferably includes a non-adjustable flow restrictor, which may be sized for relatively low flow rates to permit the system to be used for catheter patency maintenance.

The ribs define a plurality of open passages around the liquid absorbent material, and connecting an inlet of the housing in fluid communication with an outlet, so that the gas flowing between the inlet and the outlet experiences substantially no pressure drop, the liquid in the gas being absorbed by the liquid absorbent material in the filter, as the gas flows through the filter.

An actuator closes off, and then severs, a tubing section which is extended through the channel in the valve during an actuation stroke of the valve, the actuator including first and second spaced-apart, generally parallel slots provided in the valve body and intersecting the tubing support channel, and a driving member and first and second actuating members, each actuating member disposed in a respective slot of the valve body. During a mid-portion of the actuation stroke, the first actuating member first engages, and then closes, the tubing disposed across the first slot. At the end of the actuation stroke, after the tubing has been closed, the second actuating member severs the tubing disposed across the second slot.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a package for and method of packaging a sterilizable calibratable medical device including a hydratable sensor component. The device is maintained in a sterile environment during storage and in a clean environment during the calibration procedure. The package includes a manifold connected to the sensor component by plumbing. The plumbing establishes fluid communication between the manifold and the sensor component and/or between the sensor component and the ambient environment of the plumbing. The manifold, plumbing and medical device are sealed in a wrap including a gas-permeable surface. The wrap and its contents, including the interior surfaces of the components, are sterilizable by exposing the wrap to a gaseous sterilization solution and appropriately adjusting the plumbing. The medical device is hydratable by directing the hydration solution to the sensor component by means of the plumbing.
