  • Patent number: 7480567
Abstract: A system and method is provided for displaying a map having a close known location and a destination and for providing navigation recommendations for traveling from the close known location to the destination. A user may use a mobile device to submit a request for navigation instructions for navigating from a starting point to a destination. The request may be submitted to a web server, to the mobile device itself, or to another device that can provide navigation instructions. The web server/mobile device or other device determines a recommended route based on the starting point and the destination, and attempts to locate a close known location to the destination near the recommended route. Navigation instructions are provided to the user including directions from the close known location to the destination.

  • Publication number: 20080244655
Abstract: Viral marketing may be used in the delivery of broadcast content over networks such as DVB-H networks. By tracking and monitoring viewer recommendations and viewer responses to recommendations, content providers may target viewers and/or peer groups for marketing various types of content. Content may include advertisements, television programs, service announcements and the like. Feedback from viewers may be received on a user device through a backward or upstream channel. The viewers may be provided with a recommendation interface. In one or more configurations, the interface may be integrated into an electronic programming guide.

  • Publication number: 20080120186
Abstract: Advertising messages are provided to mobile terminals of those users identified by user information as meeting certain criteria, such as users fitting particular user profiles and/or users located in a particular desired location. The content of the advertising messages is dynamically generated based on the number of mobile terminals to whom the advertising message is to be sent and the advertising message is sent to the identified mobile terminals over a mobile network or a short range communication signal. In the latter case, location information may be sent to the mobile terminal along with an advertising message. Where the content of an advertising message comprises an electronic coupon, the value of the coupon depends on the number of mobile terminals to whom the advertising message is to be sent. A mobile terminal user can redeem an electronic coupon by transmitting it from his mobile terminal to a coupon redemption terminal.

  • Patent number: 7227529
Abstract: A system and method for enabling a wireless terminal to access and operate ubiquitous devices (“UDs”), such as televisions, DVD players, etc. The system comprises a server coupled to access points and UDs via a LAN or a WLAN. Each access point is associated with both a map of an associated area and an overlay indicating the location of the UDs within that area. In response to wireless terminal requests relayed by an access point, the server retrieves the map and overlay associated with the access point, and transmits that data to the terminal for display. Alternatively, a list of UDs may be transmitted. Selection of a UD from the display causes an image of the UD's control panel to be displayed, from which the device may be remotely controlled by the user. A mechanism is also provided to permit users to display maps of areas other than the one in which the user is currently located to permit remote control of UDs in such areas.

  • Patent number: 7159186
Abstract: An aspect of the present invention provides methods and apparatus for supporting a user interface of a terminal. The user interface enables the user to manipulate display objects on a display of the user interface in order to download software objects of other users, execute software objects of the user or of other users, and share software objects with other users. In an embodiment of the invention, the display is partitioned into three areas comprising a user's data area, an applications area, and another user's data area. The user can drag a display object between the user's data area and the other user's data area in order to download or publish a corresponding software object. Also, the user can drag a display object from either the user's data area or the other user's data area to the application area in order to execute or view the corresponding software object.

  • Patent number: 7146178
Abstract: In a mobile communication system, a method and system for obtaining location-dependent services information by using a mobile station. An information beacon containing services information pertaining to the location of the beacon is disposed in an environment. The beacon is capable of communicating with the mobile station when the mobile station is located within the operating range of the beacon. The mobile station includes a services access key which, when selected while the mobile station is within the operating range of the beacon, will transmit a query to the beacon requesting location-based services. In response to the query, location-based services information will be transmitted to the mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20060075034
Abstract: An apparatus and method for creating, storing, retrieving and sharing personal information relating to earth shaking events (ESE). Upon receiving notice of an ESE, a user device may create an ESE data set by creating a name/description, creating metadata and collecting information relating to the event. The parameters of the collecting process, such as the period of collection, the type of data collected, the data sources, etc., may be defined by an action profile, which is associated with the type of the event of interest. The device may also notify peer devices of the event. An ESE data set may be stored locally or remotely in association with the metadata for later retrieval. An ESE data set may be retrieved for presentation to the user and/or for sharing with peer user devices thereby enabling one to relive the user's experience relative to the event.

  • Publication number: 20060053145
Abstract: Systems and methods applicable, for instance, in data dispatch. For example, a series of nodes and/or other computers may be employed such that passing of data, via proximity connection, from node and/or other computer to node and/or other computer in the series results in the data being received by an intended recipient node and/or other computer. A node and/or other computer of the series might come to be in proximity connection range with another node and/or other computer of the series, for instance, by way of user translocation of one or more of the nodes and/or other computers.

  • Patent number: 7007242
Abstract: The invention relates to a mobile device comprising a display. In order to offer a user a more extensive immediate overview over the information available to a specific topic, it is proposed that the mobile device comprises processing means for presenting on the display a three-dimensional polyhedron as graphical user interface. Different pieces of information that are to be presented to a user of the mobile device are associated to different facets of this polyhedron, and the visible facets of the polyhedron present at least a hint on a respectively associated piece of information to a user of the mobile device. It is further proposed that the mobile device comprises means for enabling a user to cause the processing means to rotate the facets of the presented polyhedron. The invention relates equally to a corresponding graphical user interface and to a corresponding method for presenting such a graphical user interface.
