  • Publication number: 20070228211
Abstract: A missile includes a radome-seeker airframe assembly that has a single-piece composite material forebody. The forebody is made of a high-temperature composite material that can withstand heat with little or no ablation. The forebody has a front part with an ogive shape and an aft part that has a cylindrical shape. The front part acts as a radome for a seeker located within the forebody. Patch antennas are attached to an inside surface of the cylindrical aft part. The aft part acts as a radome for the patch antennas, allowing signals to be sent and received by the patch antennas without a need for cutouts. A single seal may be used to seal the guidance system and seeker within the forebody, allowing the equipment to be hermetically sealed within the forebody.

  • Publication number: 20070219774
Abstract: A machine translation system is trained to generate confidence scores indicative of a quality of a translation result. A source string is translated with a machine translator to generate a target string. Features indicative of translation operations performed are extracted from the machine translator. A trusted entity-assigned translation score is obtained and is indicative of a trusted entity-assigned translation quality of the translated string. A relationship between a subset of the extracted features and the trusted entity-assigned translation score is identified.

  • Publication number: 20070200342
Abstract: A method for joining a multi-layered pipe to a coupling, the multi-layered pipe including at least an outer and an inner layer of thermoplastic material and the coupling including a thermoplastic material. The method includes providing a coupling including a recess for receiving an end of a multi-layered pipe, the recess being configured, in use, to permit the coupling to contact the inner and outermost layers of a multi-layered pipe received in the recess. An end of the multi-layered pipe is fit into the recess of the coupling. Heat is introduced to both the coupling sufficient to cause local melting at the interface between the coupling and either the inner layer alone or both the inner and outer layers of the multi-layered pipe.

  • Publication number: 20070198557
Abstract: In an embodiment, a method of designing a schema to implement an object database system is provided. A first table type may be defined in the schema that may include a layout for an object table. The object table may define an instance of an object in the object data-base system. A second table may be defined in the schema that may include a layout of an object relations table. The object relations table may define a type of relation between instances of at least two objects in the object database system. Each of the instances of the at least two objects may be defined by a respective entry of the object table.

  • Publication number: 20070165043
Abstract: A graphics system including a custom graphics and audio processor produces exciting 2D and 3D graphics and surround sound. The system includes a graphics and audio processor including a 3D graphics pipeline and an audio digital signal processor. Techniques for efficiently buffering graphics data between a producer and a consumer within a low-cost graphics systems such as a 3D home video game overcome the problem that a small-sized FIFO buffer in the graphics hardware may not adequately load balance a producer and consumer—causing the producer to stall when the consumer renders bit primitives. One aspect of the invention solves this invention by allocating part of main memory to provide a variable number of variable sized graphics commands buffers. Applications can specify the number of buffers and the size of each. All writes to the graphics FIFO can be routed a buffer in main memory. The producer and consumer independently maintain their own read and write pointers, decoupling the producer from the consumer.

  • Publication number: 20070163410
Abstract: A compound miter saw includes a table on which a workpiece is placed, a miter saw unit supporting a saw blade, and a housing pivotally supporting the miter saw unit related to the table in such a manner that the miter saw unit is at least laterally pivotable. Further, the miter saw includes a bevel mechanism for selectively determining the lateral position of the miter saw unit at any of a plurality of pivoted positions, including a vertical position where the saw blade is positioned substantially vertically relative to the table, and leftward and rightward pivoted positions where the blade is inclined laterally leftwardly and laterally rightwardly from the vertical position. The bevel mechanism includes a movable rod and three fixed stop members, the rod being operable to move between a first rod position abutting one of the fixed stop members and a second rod position not abutting the one of the fixed stop members so as to permit the lateral pivotal movement of the miter saw unit.

  • Publication number: 20070151495
Abstract: A vessel designed to operate efficiently as both a catamaran and air cushion vessel can travel at low speed in a catamaran or displacement mode, high speed in an air cushion mode, and amphibiously with the aid of deployable side seals. The vessel includes catamaran hulls and flexible air cushion bow and stern seal systems together with retractable side seals having hinged doors containing inflatable, retractable flexible components. The doors form part of the side seal system in the deployed position, and protect the flexible components of the seal in the retracted position. The arrangement reduces the drag associated with the side seals while the vessel operates in its catamaran or surface effect ship modes, and prevents damage to the seals during operation in the high speeds SES mode.

  • Publication number: 20070151499
Abstract: A vessel transfer system utilizes a larger, surface effect vessel with a hull and a cargo deck, having a pressurized volume of air under its hull. The larger vessel cargo deck is lowered relative to a water surface in order to receive a smaller vessel. Lowering is achieved by depressurizing the volume of pressurized air under the hull. Movable propulsors on an air cushion vehicle permit efficient operation under way in an outer position, while minimizing the envelope dimensions for stowage in a well deck, providing clearance from bridges, docks, etc. in an inner position. In the outer position, the propellers operate in more uniform inflow conditions, resulting in improved performance and lower noise levels. In addition, the craft can be arranged to use a full width stern ramp resulting in time saved during cargo loading/unloading. The propellers will be less likely to ingest green water in high sea states.

Abstract: Systems for minimally invasive disc augmentation include an anulus augmentation component and a nucleus augmentation component. Both are suited for minimally invasive deployment. The nucleus augmentation component restores disc height and/or replaces missing nucleus pulposus. The anulus augmentation component shields weakened regions of the anulus fibrosis and/or resists escape of natural nucleus pulposus and/or the nucleus augmentation component. Methods and deployment devices are also disclosed. Methods of repairing a herniated disc by displacing at least a portion of the herniated segment to within the pre-herniated borders of the disc and anchoring at least a portion of the displaced herniated segment to a site within the disc are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20070108986
Abstract: In accordance with the teachings described herein, systems and methods are provided for performing differential measurements in an electrical system. A first meter may be used that has a first time reference. A second meter may be used that has a second time reference, wherein the second time reference is synchronous with the first time reference. The first and second meters may be configured to use the first and second time references, respectively, to take time synchronized measurements of the electrical system. A processor may be used to receive the time synchronized measurements from the first and second meters and compare the time synchronized measurements to determine one or more electrical characteristics of the electrical system. The processor may also be used to correct for any existence time variation between the time synchronized measurements.

Abstract: A graphics system including a custom graphics and audio processor produces exciting 2D and 3D graphics and surround sound. The system includes a graphics and audio processor including a 3D graphics pipeline and an audio digital signal processor. The graphics processor includes an embedded frame buffer for storing frame data prior to sending the frame data to an external location, such as main memory. A copy pipeline is provided which converts the data from one format to another format prior to writing the data to the external location. The conversion may be from one RGB color format to another RGB color format, from one YUV format to another YUV format, from an RGB color format to a YUV color format, or from a YUV color format to an RGB color format. The formatted data is either transferred to a display buffer, for use by the video interface, or to a texture buffer, for use as a texture by the graphics pipeline in a subsequent rendering process.
