  • Patent number: 8696826
Abstract: Electrodes are conveyed edgewise along a path. The electrodes can be supported by their bottom peripheral edge and can be maintained generally vertically. A plurality of wash nozzles are positioned adjacent to the path on opposing sides thereof. Wash spray from the nozzles is directed to impinge sides of the electrode. The nozzles can be arranged linearly to form a nozzle array angled so that the wash spray impinges an upper portion prior to a bottom portion of the electrode. Separate sections for rinsing or pre-washing can be provided within a washing chamber. Used water can be collected and recycled.

  • Publication number: 20130206696
Abstract: An aspect of the present invention is directed to an apparatus and method for treating and disposing of wastewater produced by a facility. This aspect of the present invention is particularly well suited to manage and dispose of wastewater produced by an agricultural processing facility. Treated wastewater is selectively blended with untreated wastewater of the facility and the blended mixture is provided to a disposal unit for disposal. Another aspect of the present invention is directed to a system for maximizing the efficiency of an impurity removal unit designed to remove at least one impurity from a liquid. More specifically, this system is preferably designed to blend influent entering the impurity removal unit with another source of liquid to ensure that the liquid treated by the impurity removal unit has an impurity concentration approximately equal to the maximum impurity concentration that the impurity removal unit can satisfactorily process.

  • Patent number: 8443748
Abstract: This invention is for a docking aid to help dock a boat to a docking post, or to pull a boat closer to the shore. It comprises of a shaft and a tensile member. The tensile member may pass through the shaft and form one or more loops at the ends of the shaft. One loop may be used to dock to a docking pole, while a second loop may be used as a handle to pull, or to loop around another docking element. At least one loop may have a utility implement with an attached tool. This tool may be used to grab a docking post from a boat, to grab an inbound boat from a dock, to pull closer to a second boat, or to grab objects out of the water that may have fallen overboard. The docking aid may also be floatable.

  • Patent number: 8337679
Abstract: The present invention relates to electrolytic cathode assemblies typically used in the refining or winning of metals and to methods of manufacturing and using same. The cathode assembly comprises an electrically conductive hanger bar and a deposition plate attached along an upper end to the hanger bar to define a joint. The cathode assembly further comprises a protective covering having lateral edges and surrounding the hanger bar and a portion of the upper end of the deposition plate so as to substantially enclose the joint and to leave end portions of the hanger bar exposed outside of the lateral edges of the protective covering. Each end of the protective covering includes a corrosion resistant material positioned to form a substantially continuous seal between the protective covering and the hanger bar, thereby to at least hinder fluid flow into the protective covering. Methods of manufacturing and using the electrolytic cathode assemblies are also described.

  • Publication number: 20120296844
Abstract: An inventive computerized investment method and process is disclosed that comprises the creation, calculation, and use of a “Roll Yield” Index, which is a function of a futures contract “rolling” methodology that may vary depending on the underlying commodity, and a systematic rebalancing mechanism for portfolio management of long/short commodity futures index products. Both the Roll Yield Index and the long/short portfolios have the same investment objective to deliver the spread, or difference, between two or more futures contracts on the same underlying commodity with different expiration dates.

  • Publication number: 20120273241
Abstract: An overhaul line system includes a manifold that is attachable to, or formed integral with an attack nozzle. The manifold provides at least one quick connect coupling that allows an overhaul line to be connected to the manifold and to receive fire suppressing fluid from that manifold into a hose. The overhaul line has an elongated nozzle at its end remote from the quick connect coupling. A flow control valve is interposed between the elongated nozzle and the remote end of the overhaul line. A water treatment cartridge container can also be situated adjacent the flow control valve.

  • Publication number: 20120278254
Abstract: An investment method and process used to create investment indexes that measure the difference between market segments, which such market segments may be in unrelated investment categories or within the same asset class, while simultaneously managing long/short portfolios that return the measured difference in the form of investible index products is disclosed. The three primary steps of the inventive investment method and process are: (1) to identify the desired risk factor for isolation for purposes of hedging existing risk, diversifying risk, or tactical investment in risk; (2) to create and calculate a Factor Index and develop underlying algorithms for intraday and end-of-period benchmarking; and (3) to design a Factor Index Product and implement a Factor Portfolio involving the isolation of the desired risk factor by establishing and maintaining a long exposure to one (or more) market segment(s) and a short exposure to one (or more) market segment(s).

  • Publication number: 20120128622
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an enhanced wound healing composition, including a gel containing vancomycin, useful for the prevention of the spread of resistant-type bacteria. Preferably, the drug is one or more antibiotic agents in therapeutically effective concentrations to reduce or eliminate MRSA. The composition is based on a gel composition containing one or more gel forming compounds, such as one or more polymers, preservatives, and/or pH stabilizers and buffers, which not only maintains a moist wound environment to enhance wound healing, but also provides an antibiotic agent which has sustained potency and stability. The composition, when placed in contact with a treatment site, delivers the drug to the site. By incorporating the drug into the gel composition that is formulated to enhance wound healing, the treatment of such disease is possible in a manner which promotes wound healing while reducing or eliminating the MRSA microbe.
