Patent number: 8687060Abstract: This invention provides a system and method for estimating the time of a set of pulses based upon a plurality of position measurements of a moving object provided by a non-contacting sensor, such as a one-dimensional optical sensor that tracks movements of object features and reports position measurements with respect to time. Position measurements determine the estimated velocity. The velocity and position measurement allow the timing of a next pulse to be updated, based upon the time of the previous pulse. The pulse is output at the time of the last updated time before the first new position measurement received after the estimated pulse output time. The system allows pulses to be precisely delivered at predetermined motion distances. Where the distance is too short for the measurement rate, the system compares estimated pulse times to clock-generated pulse times and updates the clock-generated pulse times based upon the difference.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2009Date of Patent: April 1, 2014Assignee: Cognex CorporationInventor: Robert A. Human/machine interface for a machine vision sensor and method for installing and operating the same
Patent number: 7305114Abstract: This invention overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art by providing a human/machine interface (HMI) for use with machine vision systems (MVSs) that provides the machine vision system processing functionality at the sensor end of the system, and uses a communication interface to exchange control, image and analysis information with a standardized, preferably portable device that can be removed from the MVS during runtime. In an illustrative embodiment, this portable device can be a web-browser equipped computer (handheld, laptop or fixed PC) or a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). The communication interface on the sensor-end of the system is adapted to communicate over a cable or wireless communication link (for example infrared (IR) or radio frequency (RF)), with a corresponding communication interface in the portable device.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 2001Date of Patent: December 4, 2007Assignee: Cognex Technology and Investment CorporationInventors: Robert Wolff, William Silver -
Patent number: 7167575Abstract: A two-dimensional (2-D) machine-vision safety-solution involving a method and apparatus for performing high-integrity, high efficiency machine vision. A known structured lighting texture pattern is projected upon a target area. A model image of the pattern on an empty target field is stored during an initial training step. The machine vision safety solution digitally interprets a camera image of the light reflected by the objects in the target area to detect and characterize a pattern in the image. The pattern characterization is then processed to determine if a distortion of the characterization factors is larger than a predetermined threshold, and results in an alarm condition.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2000Date of Patent: January 23, 2007Assignee: Cognex CorporationInventors: Sanjay Nichani, Robert Wolff, William Silver, David A. Patent number: 6684402Abstract: A hub that controls the acquisition of images from a plurality of image sources utilizes image acquisition logic that selectively applies a first set of control signals (e.g., “shutter” signals) to imaging devices, causing them to acquire images. The logic applies a second set of control signals (e.g., “readout” signals) to the devices, causing them to output the images to the hub. Those images are transferred by the hub to a host over an isochronous communications medium.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1999Date of Patent: January 27, 2004Assignee: Cognex Technology and Investment CorporationInventor: Robert Wolff

Patent number: 6469734Abstract: A two-dimensional (2-D) machine-vision safety-solution involving a method and apparatus for performing high-integrity, high efficiency machine vision. The machine vision safety solution digitally filters a configurable number of time-sequenced images of a viewed area to create a filtered image. A textured background is used as a static target and viewed under ambient light, or alternatively a texture is observed under IR light. An artificial texture can be created with a particularized pattern. Each new image is then compared to the previously created model and a pixel-oriented difference image is calculated. The difference image is then processed for segmentation features attributable to an intruder object. For segmentation results that exceed a predetermined threshold, an alarm condition is set.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2000Date of Patent: October 22, 2002Assignee: Cognex CorporationInventors: Sanjay Nichani, Robert Wolff, William Silver, David A. Patent number: 5798469Abstract: A sintered structure is formed from a powdered material by the steps of providing a first, green powdered material which can be a ceramic or metallic ceramic material. A second, preformed mold blank material to the green powdered material, wherein the preformed mold blank will not fuse with the first, green powdered material. The mold blank material is different green material having a higher sintering temperature than the first green powdered material. Then the structure is fired at the sintering temperature of the first, green powdered material; and the preformed mold blank material from the fired powdered material is removed. Grooves can be formed by pressing non-sinterable lines into a green sheet prior to firing. A wave guide unit can be formed in the ceramic. A ceramic structure can be formed with fracture markings in the green powdered material.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: August 25, 1998Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Robert Wolff Nufer

Patent number: 5526050Abstract: The invention provides apparatus and methods for concurrently acquiring video data from multiple video data sources. The invention comprises an asynchronous interface that collects pixel data from multiple video data sources. A packet manager collects the pixel data and generates a packet data signal that represents the pixel data collected from the multiple video data sources. The packet manager transmits the packet data signal to a pixel buffer memory that includes an address generator that separates out the pixel data associated with each of the video data sources and that stores the pixel data in a video memory in a manner suitable for video display.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1994Date of Patent: June 11, 1996Assignee: Cognex CorporationInventors: David R. Patent number: 5398824Abstract: A system adapted to support items normally used in the kitchen, with the system being mounted on a backsplash wall. The system comprises a rail tube and mounting sleeves for supporting the rail tube on the wall. The rail tube is square in cross-section, and is mounted with a corner of the square being uppermost. Various supporting members are suspended from the rail tube, with the supporting members having an upper loop of the same square configuration as the rail tube. One supporting member suspendable from the rail tube is a paper towel holder having a horizontally extending frame. Two sides of the frame have a swaged area, and a hollow tube, having spaced notches, is mounted on the frame by placing the notches over the swaged areas. A roll of paper towels is supported by the tube.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1991Date of Patent: March 21, 1995Inventors: Robert A. Wolff, John F. Troxell, Jr.
