  • Patent number: 9008323
Abstract: A microphone system has an output and at least a first transducer with a first dynamic range, a second transducer with a second dynamic range different than the first dynamic range, and coupling system to selectively couple the output of one of the first transducer or the second transducer to the system output, depending on the magnitude of the input sound signal, to produce a system with a dynamic range greater than the dynamic range of either individual transducer. A method of operating a microphone system includes detecting whether a transducer output crosses a threshold, and if so then selectively coupling another transducer's output to the system output. Some embodiments combine the outputs of more than one transducer in a weighted sum during transition from one transducer output to another, as a function of time or as a function of the amplitude of the incident audio signal.

  • Patent number: 8842032
Abstract: A method and circuit to perform noise shaped splitting of a digital input signal may include using multiple layers to process the input signal. In the first layer, the most significant bits of the input signal may be distributed to a plurality of branches. Dynamic element matching may be performed using the least significant bits of the input signal. Based on the results of the dynamic element matching, values may be added to the plurality of branches. If there is insufficient data activity, dynamics enhancement may be performed to increase the data activity. The output signals of each of the plurality of branches in the first layer may be provided to a second layer, in which these steps can be repeated on each of the output signals. The outputs of the second layer may be provided to a plurality of three level unit elements.

  • Publication number: 20140257821
Abstract: A system for processor wake-up based on sensor data includes an audio buffer, an envelope buffer, and a processor. The audio buffer is configured to store a first data from a sensor. The first data is generated according to a first sampling rate. The envelope buffer is configured to store a second data, which is derived from the first data according to a second sampling rate, which is less than the first sampling rate. The processor is configured to wake up periodically from an idle state and read the second data from the envelope buffer. If the second data indicates an activity, the processor is configured to read the first data from the audio buffer. If the second data does not indicate an activity, the processor is configured to return to the idle state.

  • Patent number: 8819566
Abstract: Solutions for providing context-driven communications mode determinations. Some such solutions use a communications hub located in a home (e.g., a user supersystem) to facilitate context-driven, multi-modal communications. For example, a tablet system may be used as a graphical communications hub in a family's home, used by the family to communicate to and from the home via multiple communications modes (e.g., family chat, family activities, user-based messaging, etc.) over one or more communications channels. Determination of an appropriate mode for communications may be driven by contextual (rather that channel-based) factors relating to the communications.

  • Publication number: 20140236084
Abstract: An automatic injection apparatus including a delay mechanism for properly delivering medication prior to the needled syringe of the apparatus being retracted. In one form, the delay mechanism includes a shuttle for the syringe, a follower, a locking member, a damping compound between the follower and a supporting surface to dampen rotation of the follower relative to the shuttle, and a dual functioning biasing member acting between the shuttle and the follower. When the locking member moves to a release position during an injection, the dual functioning biasing member first provides a torsional force to force the follower to rotate relative to the shuttle from a latching position to an unlatching position, and then the dual functioning biasing member provides an axial force to force the shuttle axially relative to the follower to move the shuttle for retracting the syringe needle into the housing of the apparatus after injection.

  • Patent number: 8791852
Abstract: A standoff range, sense-through-obstruction radar system is capable of detecting micro-Doppler, or life form signatures, and movements through obstructions at stand-off ranges and displaying the target information over a live video feed of the area under surveillance. The sense-through-obstruction radar system comprises an antenna assembly that includes a horn antenna and a reflector configured to reflect radio frequency (RF) energy to/from the horn antenna. An antenna pointing assembly supports the antenna assembly. The antenna pointing assembly is configured to move the antenna assembly to point the antenna assembly toward an obstruction. A sensor assembly is mounted to the antenna assembly so that the sensor assembly is aligned with the RF beam formed from the RF energy reflected from the reflector to the horn antenna. The sensor assembly is configured to detect the location of the obstruction and to provide information to assist pointing of the antenna assembly toward the obstruction.
