  • Patent number: 8791852
Abstract: A standoff range, sense-through-obstruction radar system is capable of detecting micro-Doppler, or life form signatures, and movements through obstructions at stand-off ranges and displaying the target information over a live video feed of the area under surveillance. The sense-through-obstruction radar system comprises an antenna assembly that includes a horn antenna and a reflector configured to reflect radio frequency (RF) energy to/from the horn antenna. An antenna pointing assembly supports the antenna assembly. The antenna pointing assembly is configured to move the antenna assembly to point the antenna assembly toward an obstruction. A sensor assembly is mounted to the antenna assembly so that the sensor assembly is aligned with the RF beam formed from the RF energy reflected from the reflector to the horn antenna. The sensor assembly is configured to detect the location of the obstruction and to provide information to assist pointing of the antenna assembly toward the obstruction.

  • Patent number: 8786620
Abstract: Memory storage and processing for idle computer-generated graphical display components are discarded for conserving memory capacity, processing resources and power consumption. If a computer-generated display frame goes idle for a prescribed duration, for example, 30 seconds, wherein no user action or processor action is performed on the idle display frame, stored data representing the idle display frame is discarded from memory and processing for the idle display component is ceased, thus conserving memory space, processing resources and power consumption (e.g., battery power). If the discarded display frame becomes active again, its discarded resources may be recreated. Alternatively, an idle display component may be passed to a separate application and may be reclaimed by a requiring application when the idle display component becomes active again.

  • Publication number: 20140152480
Abstract: A method and circuit to perform noise shaped splitting of a digital input signal may include using multiple layers to process the input signal. In the first layer, the most significant bits of the input signal may be distributed to a plurality of branches. Dynamic element matching may be performed using the least significant bits of the input signal. Based on the results of the dynamic element matching, values may be added to the plurality of branches. If there is insufficient data activity, dynamics enhancement may be performed to increase the data activity. The output signals of each of the plurality of branches in the first layer may be provided to a second layer, in which these steps can be repeated on each of the output signals. The outputs of the second layer may be provided to a plurality of three level unit elements.

  • Patent number: 8734031
Abstract: Novel tools and techniques are described for protecting camera components on a surface and/or within an internal portion of a portable electronic device. In one aspect, an electronic device might comprise a camera mount, which might comprise a camera barrel assembly configured to have a camera affixed thereto, the camera barrel assembly being rotatably coupled with one of a front panel, a rear panel, or a chassis of the electronic device. The camera mount may further comprise a set of cantilever springs affixed to one of the front panel, the rear panel, or the chassis and biased against the camera barrel assembly to provide rotational friction on the camera barrel assembly. The set of cantilever springs might have sufficient compliance to allow the camera to retract into a body of the portable electronic device upon encountering an external force, which may include an impact force or a dropping force.

  • Patent number: 8734394
Abstract: An automatic injection apparatus including a delay mechanism for properly delivering medication prior to the needled syringe of the apparatus being retracted. In one form, the delay mechanism includes a shuttle (170) for the syringe, a follower (250), a locking member, a damping compound between the follower and a supporting surface (308) to dampen rotation of the follower relative to the shuttle, and a dual functioning biasing member (290) acting between the shuttle and the follower. When the locking member moves to a release position during an injection, the dual functioning biasing member first provides a torsional force to force the follower to rotate relative to the shuttle from a latching position to an unlatching position, and then the dual functioning biasing member provides an axial force to force the shuttle axially relative to the follower to move the shuttle for retracting the syringe needle into the housing of the apparatus after injection.

  • Publication number: 20140043932
Abstract: Method and system for blending biogas with conventional fuel in which the fuel blend is automatically adjusted for lower biogas flows and methane concentrations by introducing higher concentrations of conventional fuels. The system is able to automatically adjust the fuel blend, thereby eliminating the requirement for manual intervention, and producing a variable blended biogas that can be utilized within existing natural-gas fired combustion units such as boilers, furnaces, heaters, etc., as well as enabling automatic adjustment and operation, maximum usage of biogas, and integration with combustion unit controls. Using all available biogas to provide energy also minimizes the need for flaring unused biogas.

  • Patent number: 8619260
Abstract: A multi-grating resonant waveguide (RWG) biosensor for an optical reader system having a spatial resolution limit is disclosed. The multi-grating RWG biosensor includes one or more signal-grating regions and one or more reference-grating regions. The multi-grating RWG biosensor can also include a non-resonance region that spatially separates the one or more signal-grating regions, that spatially separates the one or more reference-grating regions, and that spatially separates the one or more reference-grating regions from the one or more signal-grating regions. The non-resonance region can have a minimum width greater than the optical reader system spatial resolution limit. The RWG biosensor can have an asymmetric split-grating configuration. Methods of measuring a signal resonant wavelength of a multi-grating RWG biosensor using an optical reader having a spatial resolution limit are also disclosed.
