Patent number: 11537273Abstract: An online system presents a content item to users and receives selections of reaction icons from the users. The online system generates a background animation with the selected reaction icons and a foreground animation to be layered on top of the background animation. The online system sends the background and foreground animations to a client device to be cached. Further, the online system presents the content item to a viewing user associated with the client device and receives a selection of a reaction icon from the viewing user. The online system selects a subset of the users based on the viewing user's affinity to the users, retrieves images of the selected users, and send the images to the client device. The client device customizes the background and foreground animations based on the images and the viewing user's reaction icon to generate a compound animation for display to the viewing user.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2020Date of Patent: December 27, 2022Assignee: Meta Platforms, Inc.Inventors: Robert Benson Walton, Zachary W. Publication number: 20170038958Abstract: Systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media can present a graphical element indicating that text is capable of being provided as input. A gesture performed with respect to the graphical element can be detected. At least one property associated with text to be provided as input can be modified based on the gesture performed with respect to the graphical element.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 6, 2015Publication date: February 9, 2017Inventors: Robert Benson Walton, Eugenio Padilla Garza

Patent number: 8872813Abstract: An authoring tool assigns a first depth value to a first image layer and a second depth value to a second image layer. The first depth value is a first simulated distance from a user. The second depth value is a second simulated distance from the user. The authoring tool composes an image based on the first image layer and the second image layer such that the image is displayed within a page in a scrollable area on a viewing device. The first depth value is utilized to generate a first offset value from a first static position of the first image layer and the second depth value is utilized to generate a second offset value from a second static position of the second image layer based upon a scroll position of the page with respect to a target location in the scrollable area to create a parallax effect.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2011Date of Patent: October 28, 2014Assignee: Adobe Systems IncorporatedInventors: Robert Benson Walton, Daniel Alan Wabyick

Patent number: 8448244Abstract: Embodiments allow for use of fused files that comprise executable code and content data in a more user-friendly and flexible manner. For example, a fused file can include content data and application logic for editing the content data within the file. Security through the use of digital signatures can be supported, but with at least part of a file recognized as extensible so that the file can be edited without “breaking” the signature. Additionally, a computing device can be configured to utilize a “sandbox” environment so that extensible (and/or other) portions of a fused file do not introduce unacceptable security issues even if the digital signature is valid. In some embodiments, the support of extensibility and sandboxing allows a runtime environment to utilize installer-free operation, which can represent a significant advantage in that fused files can be widely distributed to any device utilizing the runtime environment.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2010Date of Patent: May 21, 2013Assignee: Adobe Systems IncorporatedInventors: Tim Kukulski, Robert Benson Walton, Allan Padgett
