  • Patent number: 6326111
Abstract: A charge transport layer material for a photoreceptor includes at least a polycarbonate polymer, at least one charge transport material, polytetrafluoroethylene particle aggregates having an average size of less than about 1.5 microns, hydrophobic silica and a fluorine-containing polymeric surfactant dispersed in a solvent. The presence of the hydrophobic silica enables the dispersion to have superior stability by preventing settling of the PTFE particles. A resulting charge transport layer produced from the dispersion exhibits excellent wear resistance against contact with an AC bias charging roll, excellent electrical performance, and delivers superior print quality.

  • Publication number: 20010042427
Abstract: A novel method and apparatus for producing an endless flexible seamed belt using templates is disclosed. A first form of the template is a mask template with a template aperture in the form of a puzzle cut pattern to be used in combination with an excimer laser. The template is placed between the excimer laser source and the belt material to be cut. As the excimer laser traverses the width of the belt, the laser forms a puzzle cut pattern on the belt. A second form of the template is a punch and die having patterned edges in the form of a puzzle cut pattern with extremely small nodes and kerfs. The cutting tolerances of the patterned edges make it necessary to fix the punch with respect to the die so that there is no misalignment of the punch and die between cutting operations. This is accomplished by resiliently fixing the punch to the die, rather than having the punch attached to the force generating assembly as in normal punch and die assemblies.

  • Patent number: 6165670
Abstract: A method of treating an electrostatographic imaging member web is applied to a web that includes a support substrate and at least one imaging layer formed over the support substrate. The electrostatographic imaging member web can optionally include no anti-curl backing layer. The web is bent into an arcuate shape and heated to a temperature above the glass transition temperature of the imaging layer. The imaging layer is then cooled while in the arcuate shape to a temperature below the glass transition temperature, forming a substantially stress-free imaging layer when conforming to the arcuate shape. The electrostatographic imaging members can be electrographic and electrophotographic imaging members. The treated electrostatographic imaging member webs can be formed into seamed electrostatographic imaging member belts such as ionographic imaging member belts and photoreceptor belts.

  • Patent number: 6101353
Abstract: A system for increasing the life of flexible photoreceptor belt in a copier/printer includes tensioning and de-tensioning the photoreceptor belt. The photoreceptor belt is de-tensioned at the end of daily use, on weekends, and on non working days in order to reduce belt dimensional elongation due to creep which thereby suppresses the development of charge transport layer cracking in the photoreceptor belt and increases belt service life of the photoreceptor by a factor of about 2.times..

  • Patent number: 5966572
Abstract: An electrophotographic printing machine that has a photoconductive belt with a skewed seam thereon. The position of the skewed seam is detected by a pair of seam detection devices. The seam detection devices are spaced from one another and adapted to transmit a pair of signals with the signals having a time interval therebetween. These signals are inputted to a detection circuit and, if the time interval between signals is within a preselected tolerance, the detection circuit generates a seam indication signal. In this way, scratches on the photoconductive surface may be discriminated from the seam.
