  • Patent number: 5835583
Abstract: In an Advanced Intelligent Network, a central mediation point stores call processing records for controlling call routing and other call processing functions. To provide short code access to information service providers, each information service provider will operate an independent database which stores additional call processing records. When an established subscriber dials the short code, e.g. an N11 code, the mediation point identifies the information provider that the subscriber has previously selected from the subscriber's call processing record stored in the mediation point. The mediation point communicates with that service provider's database to obtain call processing information. The mediation point validates the call processing information for compatibility with network operations. The mediation point forwards validated call processing information to a node of the network to process the call in accord with the information from the provider's database.

  • Patent number: 5771279
Abstract: Telecommunications calls exchanged between customer premise equipment (CPE) and a switched telephone network receive AIN treatment within the CPE and within the network. An AIN architecture is employed in the CPE and in the network, and the signaling systems are interfaced to permit an exchange of signaling messages. A request message, originating either within the CPE or within the network, can be directed to a service logic provider either within the CPE or within the network (e.g., an AIN integrated service control point, or ISCP). In particular, the ISCP of the switched telephone network can be programmed by the customer premises equipment and vice versa to provide enhanced services. These may include a look ahead busy service in which a query is sent to determine whether equipment is busy before a communications call is connected.

  • Patent number: 5751789
Abstract: A smart network interface device (SNID), connects between the drop cable of a telephone line and customer premises wiring. To provide backup for the telephone line service, the SNID includes a wireless-to-landline interface. In response to detection of a fault in the telephone line, a controller activates a switch in the SNID. The switch changes the connection of the customer premises wiring over from the telephone line to the wireless-to-landline interface. When service switches to wireless communication, the wireless-to-landline interface registers with the public wireless telephone network. That wireless network assigns a temporary directory number to the interface and instructs the public switched landline telephone network to forward all subsequent calls for the customer through the wireless network using the temporary directory. All subsequent incoming and outgoing calls to and from the customer premises telephone utilize wireless communication.

  • Patent number: 5708702
Abstract: An off-board or remote database controls routing of out-of-band signaling messages through signaling transfer points (STPs). The preferred embodiment relates to improvements in an SS7 common channel interoffice signaling system which transports routing control type signaling messages and the like between switching offices of a public switched telephone network. At least one STP is programmed to recognize certain aspects of a signaling message as a `point in routing` (PIR) which triggers a database query or `dip` to the remote database. The database provides an instruction to the STP as to how to translate and/or route the particular signaling message. The signaling message routing information in the database may be extremely dynamic, for example varying with time of day, point-of-origin, traffic congestion, etc.
