  • Patent number: 5692033
Abstract: An arrangement in an intelligent network for queuing incoming calls to a destination number during peak calling times and initiating call-backs based on the order that the incoming calls were originally placed in the queue. Translation tables in a subscriber's telephone switching office have terminate attempt triggers and disconnect triggers set to the subscriber's number. A disconnect detection triggers a query from the telephone switching office to an integrated services control point (ISCP), at which point the ISCP accesses the first caller in the queue and sends a message to the originating office serving the first caller to ring the first caller and the subscriber's number. A call to the subscriber's number triggers a query from the telephone switching office serving the subscriber to the ISCP. If the call is from the first caller in the queue, the ISCP instructs the telephone switching office to connect the call to the subscriber.

  • Patent number: 5684866
Abstract: A method and system for providing operator services to an interexchange carrier for completing a long distance telephone call for which an operator service is indicated. The interexchange carrier call requiring operator services is connected from the interexchange carrier (IXW) network to a point-of-presence (POP) of the interexchange carrier within a local access transport area (LATA). From the POP the call is connected to an operator service system (OSS) external to the IXC network and within the LATA. The OSS completes the call in accordance with a request for service from the caller. An SS7 signaling system is used to route calls from a terminating switch in the interexchange carrier network to an end office, so that the call legs of the operator service system can be switched out of the call path.

  • Patent number: 5642418
Abstract: A system for controlling the acquisition of encrypted program signals such as television or other signals utilizing existing equipment in use in telecommunications networks. The transmitted program signals are encrypted subject to decryption for presentation by a receiver such as a television receiver. A subscriber unit associated with the receiver receives the signals and is connected to the telecommunications network. The subscriber unit also receives program order commands from a subscriber and responsive to such a command transmits to the telecommunications network an order which enables the telecommunications network to identify the directory number to which the subscriber unit is connected and the number of the subscriber unit. Upon validation the telecommunications network returns to the subscriber unit a first decryption key which is stored in the subscriber unit.

  • Patent number: 5546450
Abstract: A method for providing switch translations upon a failure in the conventional recent change message handling system. The failure results in triggering a common channel signaling inquiry, to a signaling control point which responds with instructions for setting up a common channel signaling link between the Recent Change Memory Administration Center (RCMAC) to an alternate Remote Memory Administration System (RMAS). The RCMAC then delivers the recent change message to the alternate RMAS and the RMAS delivers the recent change signal to the addressed switch. In an alternate embodiment the Signal Control Point is provided with RMAS capability. This RMAS capability is then used in place of the alternate RMAS and the SCP sets up a path from the SCP associated RMAS to the RCMAC and to the addressed switch. The communication from the RCMAC which initiated the inquiry to the SCP and RMAS associated therewith is in common channel signaling protocol.

  • Patent number: 5526413
Abstract: Telecommunications calls exchanged between customer premise equipment (CPE) and a switched telephone network receive advanced intelligent network (AIN) treatment within the CPE and within the network. The overall processing operations are coordinated and integrated so that the CPE can draw upon the network for information and resources and the network can draw upon the CPE. An AIN architecture is employed in the CPE and in the network, and the signaling systems are interfaced to permit an exchange of signaling messages. Detection of a trigger event in the CPE, or by an AIN switch in the network, causes the call control unit detecting the trigger to formulate a request message soliciting information or a support action for the call processing to be continued. Because the signaling systems are interfaced, the request message, originating either within the CPE or within the network, can be directed to a service logic provider either within the CPE or within the network (e.g.

  • Patent number: 5524146
Abstract: A short dedicated code, such as an N11 telephone number, is used to access an information source selected from a large number of voice, data, facsimile and/or video services offered by information service providers. The system can use a single N11 number for all calls, or a first code number for preprogrammed call processing and a second number for casual access. The system can route an information service call based at least in part on preprogrammed selection data for the caller stored in a central data base, or can prompt a casual caller for various inputs to determine which service the caller currently wants to access. The disclosed system of call routing eliminates the need for information service users to know a large number of different telephone numbers to access a variety of information services. In the preferred embodiments, the user only needs to know one or two three-digit N11 type access numbers, such as 211 or 511.

  • Patent number: 5475737
Abstract: A call forwarding parameter, which a communication network uses to control forwarding of a subscriber's incoming calls to a centralized messaging system, is varied as a function of the status of a subscriber's services within the centralized messaging system. This forwarding control may apply to a variety of different types of communication network and/or to a variety of centralized messaging systems. For example, if the messaging system provides voice mail type services, and the communication network is a public switched telephone network, the voice mail system might instruct the network to change the threshold ringing interval or the threshold number of rings before forwarding unanswered calls directed to a subscriber to the voice mail system, as a function of the status of that subscriber's mailbox.
