Publication number: 20050246436Abstract: The present invention is directed toward providing a system for registering, locating, and identifying network servers within a data center containing many such servers. Parallel and serial port couplers with an erasable, programable read-only memory are encoded with a unique ID number, and a label with a bar code corresponding to the ID number is affixed to each coupler. A server to be installed in a data center has an encoded coupler attached to one of its communication ports, and information related to that particular server is stored in a system database. Upon encountering a problem with a network server, the system displays the logical name of the server at issue. The location and identification information for the server are retrieved from the system database and displayed to a technician responsible for the server at issue.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 18, 2005Publication date: November 3, 2005Applicant: LOUDCLOUD, INC.Inventors: Robert Day, Josh LeVasseur, Raymond Suorsa

Patent number: 6940702Abstract: Protection systems for electrical systems such as substation power dividers are described. The protection systems may be designed and used to detect and clear faults that may occur within the substation power dividers. For example, a first Rogowski coil may be used to detect current along a primary conductor, and output a corresponding current signal to a multi-function, differential relay having multiple voltage and current inputs. Similarly, additional Rogowski coils may be used at each of a plurality of secondary feeders, where power from the primary feeder may be distributed to the secondary feeders using a connection bus. By comparing the signals from the first Rogowski coil and the additional Rogowski coils, the differential relay may determine whether a fault exists at some point along the conductor(s) and between the first Rogowski coils and the additional Rogowski coils, including whether a fault is associated with the connection bus.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2003Date of Patent: September 6, 2005Assignee: McGraw-Edison CompanyInventors: Ljubomir A. Publication number: 20050153288Abstract: To date, those skilled in the art have never considered that cultured plant cells respond to gibberellins. However, to comprehensively and conveniently identify and isolate gibberellin responsive genes, cultured cells, which are uniform and easy to handle, are appropriate. Considering the advantages of cultured cells, the present inventors developed methods for identifying and isolating gibberellin responsive genes using cultured cells. After pre-culturing cells in an auxin-free medium, they examined whether or not changes in gene expression could be detected. As a result, it was surprisingly revealed that changes in the expression of some genes could be detected after gibberellin treatment.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2002Publication date: July 14, 2005Inventors: Eiichi Minami, Naoto Shibuya, Robert Day

Publication number: 20050034189Abstract: Genes whose expression was induced in the early stages of elicitor treatment were investigated using a DNA microchip containing 1265 varieties of rice ESTs. A chitin oligomer (N-acetylchitooligosaccharide), an important component in the cell wall of rice blast fungus, was used as the elicitor. This resulted in the identification of six varieties of novel elicitor-responsive ESTs. Of these, the product of two genes (named CIGR1 gene and CIGR2 gene) possessed a motif characteristic of the GRAS family, which are thought to be transcription factors. Thus it was indicated for the first time that, in addition to gibberellin signal transduction regulatory factors, the GRAS family is also present in rice.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 18, 2004Publication date: February 10, 2005Applicant: National Institute of Agrobiological SciencesInventors: Eiichi Minami, Naoto Shibuya, Robert Day

Publication number: 20020062310Abstract: A peer-to-peer commerce system in part relies on being able to identify the geographic location of the electronic devices, e.g., computers or palm pilots. Where the computer or device is stationary, this can be indicated by inserting a zip code, address or telephone number in the computer code identifying the device. Where the device is mobile, this can be indicated manually in a similar fashion. In addition, global positioning satellite (“GSP”) devices may be incorporated with the device to give geographic location automatically. Further, if the device is a cellular telephone device, the cellular device has location information in terms of identifying the cell in which the device is broadcasting. The peer-to-peer search is passed simultaneously over various branches of a binary tree to applications controlling databases for various businesses. Each business application checks the query against the information on its database and provides it to the requesting computer when available.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2001Publication date: May 23, 2002Applicant: Smart Peer LLCInventors: Michael Marmor, James de Jager, Robert Day, Michael J.
