    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a nitric gas dispenser for mammals on the run. The dispenser has a housing that contains a valve mechanism. The valve mechanism is interconnected between a nitric gas dispersal component that provides nitric gas at a desired pressure and a gas delivery system that provides the nitric gas at the desired pressure to the mammal. The valve mechanism controls the flow of the nitric gas between the nitric gas dispersal component and the gas delivery system. The dispenser also has a pressure sensor that is positioned along the gas delivery system and determines when the mammal is taking a breadth. If the pressure sensor determines the mammal is taking a breadth, the pressure sensor transmits a breadth signal to a microprocessor. The microprocessor then determines if the mammal is within a prescribed time frame for the mammal to be administered nitric gas.

    Abstract: A lighting box or front projection light device has a housing with an open front and open rear and a bar or rod extending horizontally across the housing. Multiple stage-type nonfocusable lights such as par lamps are mounted on the bar and positioned to send light out the front of the box. The box also has a diffusion element holder (frame) disposed proximate its front end, and even may have multiple diffusion element holders including having one diffusion element holder at an angle. Each diffusion element holder has a diffusion element or filter. The diffusion element or elements receive the light from the lighting instruments and diffuse it to provide a soft projected light from the box. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, this light may be used to provide diffused light as part of the key lighting for a stage or set, and may provide such soft projected lighting from a front (downstage) of the stage or set.

    Abstract: An electricity meter which, in one embodiment, includes a detection circuit, or unit, coupled to the meter microcomputer and supplies a detection signal to the microcomputer indicative of the data source is described. Using the signal supplied by the detection unit, the microcomputer can determine whether to allow access to metering data and other data stored in the meter. In an exemplary embodiment, the detection unit has three different modes, or states, of operation. These states of operation are sometimes referred to as the steady state, the optical port data transmit state, and the option board connector transmit state. The steady state refers to the condition of the unit when no data is being transmitted to the meter microcomputer from either optical port or the option board. In the steady state, the detection signal supplied to the microcomputer is high. In the optical port data transmit state, the detection signal transitions, as least momentarily, from a high state to a low state.

    Abstract: A cleaning unit used to clean condensates formed during use of a component of a smoking system. The component can be a heating fixture having a cigarette receiving section and a plurality of longitudinally extending circumferentially spaced apart heating elements located within a can which accumulates the condensates. During a cleaning operation, the heating fixture is fitted within a cavity in the cleaning unit such that the cigarette receiving end of the heating fixture engages an O-ring and the terminal base portion abuts against an indented stop in an interior sidewall of a removable portion of the housing. The cleaning unit includes a water inlet connected to a source of pressurized water such as a faucet and a spray member extends into the cigarette receiving section to spray jets of water against the interior of the can.

    Abstract: An electricity meter which, in one embodiment, includes a microcomputer coupled to both a liquid crystal display (LCD) and an optical port. The LCD includes an on board controller and an LCD random access memory (RAM), and in accordance with the present invention, the microcomputer is programmed to communicate the contents of the LCD RAM to the optical port during selected times of meter operation. Generally, and in an exemplary embodiment, when the LCD RAM data is updated by the microcomputer during meter operation, the microcomputer communicates such updated data to the optical port. In one specific implementation, a user selectable flag may be set to 1 or 0. If the user sets the flag to 0, then the communications feature is not enabled. If the flag is set to 1, then the communications feature is enabled. In operation, and upon receipt of a display quantity command, the microcomputer writes data to the LCD RAM.     Abstract: A method of generating electrical energy metering quantities in a multi-channel load profile recorder includes the steps of sensing a line quantity such as a line current and/or a line voltage, during a load profile time interval. Non-derived electrical energy metering quantities such as watt-hours, var-hours, volt.sup.2 -hours, ampere.sup.2 -hours, etc., are then generated upon completion of the load profile time interval. The non-derived quantities are determined from the sensed line quantities and are preferably stored in non-volatile programmable read-only memory (PROM) in the recorder. These steps are then repeated for each of the subsequent consecutive time intervals so that a load profile record or "database" of non-derived metering quantities can be established in the memory. This record can then be retrieved on a periodic basis by a utility field operator, preferably using a hand-held or portable programming unit such as a computer.

The absorbent article has a liquid impermeable backsheet on which is disposed an absorbent core, and first and second liquid permeable topsheet layers. The edge of the absorbent core defines a perimeter, and the first and second topsheet layers and the backsheet each extend laterally beyond the perimeter to define a continuous border segment surrounding the absorbent core. A liquid impermeable seal is formed in the border segment which surrounds the perimeter for preventing lateral migration of liquid from the absorbent core beyond the seal. The seal is formed to extend from an outer surface of the first topsheet layer to an outer surface of the backsheet, for establishing a capillary gradient in the second topsheet layer, thereby inhibiting wicking of fluid therethrough.
