Publication number: 20100320676Abstract: A system and method for monitoring media stack height utilizes a pick mechanism and stack height sensing mechanism. The pick mechanism has a pick arm and a pick roller, the arm rotatably mounted at one end to pivot about an axis and change its angular position relative thereto. The roller rotatably mounted to an opposite end of the arm contacts a media stack top and is rotatably driven to feed sheets one at a time from the stack top changing the stack height. The angular position of the arm relative to the stack changes as the stack height changes. The stack height sensing mechanism arranged on and adjacent to the arm senses arm angular displacement as the stack height changes to provide an indication of the sheet quantity remaining in the stack. A method for calibrating stack height sensing of the monitoring system provides one or more calibration points such as at “full stack” and “stack out” conditions.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 19, 2009Publication date: December 23, 2010Inventors: Daniel Robert Gagnon, Robert Warren Rumford, John Thomas Writt

Patent number: 7697572Abstract: A multiplexer includes a body having a mechanism, incorporated into the body, for receiving more than one incoming data stream and converting the more than one data stream into a single output stream. An integral time clock is incorporated into the body and is adapted to incrementally time stamp each incoming data stream. The processor on the device also runs software to parse user selected data streams for the purpose of filtering out unnecessary data from the incoming streams, thereby reducing the volume of data and, in particular unwanted data, from being processed and/or logged from the device. The integration of a multimeter for voltage and amperage reading acquisition also reduces the need for external peripheral devices being attached to the device.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2006Date of Patent: April 13, 2010Assignee: Spectrum External Line Inspection Technology Inc.Inventors: Ken Smelquist, Robert Gagnon, Mike Westman, Grant Dakin

Publication number: 20070255814Abstract: A system for consolidating multiple discrete machines and applications into a single rack mounted server system. Dedicated application servers maintain the discrete machines as virtual machines accessible by thin clients through secure hardwire or wireless connections and through client management servers. The system polls the application servers to compile lists of available and active applications. The list of available applications is displayed to users via an application navigation graphical user interface. The graphical user interface presents a menu from which users can point and click to select the application they wish to access.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 27, 2006Publication date: November 1, 2007Inventors: Keith Green, Robert Fauteux, Sam Sustaita, Kelly Ross, Robert Gagnon

Publication number: 20070074415Abstract: A technique for optical measurement of a thickness of a layer on a surface uses diffuse reflections at opposite boundaries of the layer, operates on transparent, or translucent layers. The thickness is determined by computing a separation between the centers of the two diffuse reflections, and using the index of refraction of the layer, and geometric properties of a beam and detector with respect to the surface. The technique is useful for quantifying thickness of a layer of rime ice, glaze ice, frosted ice, or water, for example.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2006Publication date: April 5, 2007Inventor: Robert Gagnon
