  • Publication number: 20060130763
Abstract: A vapor deposition reactor and associated method are disclosed that increase the lifetime and productivity of a filament-based resistive-heated vapor deposition system. The reactor and method provide for heating the filament while permitting the filament to move as it expands under the effect of increasing temperature while limiting the expanding movement of the filament to an amount that prevents the expanding movement of the filament from creating undesired contact with any portions of the reactor.

  • Publication number: 20060104011
Abstract: A mechanism that automatically achieves alignment of the communications elements during assembly of a modular computer system, without the need for human intervention. The mechanism comprises an alignment frame provided with bumps and depressions. The bumps in the alignment frames mate with the depressions on adjacent alignment frames. Each depression comprises an entrance opening that is wider than the diameter of the bumps. The diameter of the entrance opening is determined by the expected accuracy of the alignment of subsystems or bricks within the modular electronic system. When it is desired to align the communication elements, the alignment frames are brought into engagement by causing alignment guides to slide past each other, and to guide the bumps in the alignment frames into the depressions in the adjacent alignment frames. The mechanism further comprises a set of springs that force the allow the alignment frames to be retained securely by the communications elements.

  • Patent number: 6427134
Abstract: A voice activity detector suitable for deployment in a mobile phone apparatus is disclosed. An advantage of the voice activity detector is that it is better able to provide a decision (79) as to whether an input signal (19) consists of noise (which it is not desired to transmit) or comprises speech or information tones (which are required to be transmitted), especially in noisy environments. The voice activity detector includes a number of components, in particular an auxiliary voice activity detector (3). The auxiliary voice activity detector (3) distinguishes between noise and speech on the basis that the spectrum of speech changes more rapidly than that of noise. This results in the auxiliary detector (3) rarely mistaking a speech signal to be a noise signal. Hence, a very reliable noise template (421) is obtained. For this reason, the auxiliary detector (3) is also useful in noise reduction applications. The voice activity detector also uses a neural net classifier (7).

  • Patent number: 5845325
Abstract: Hardware and software improvements in workstations which utilize virtual addressing in multi-user operating systems with write back caches, including operating systems which allow each user to have multiple active processes. In virtual addressing, multi-user workstations, system performance may be improved significantly by including a virtual address write back cache as one of the system elements. Data protection and the reassignment of virtual addresses are supported within such a system as well. Multiple active processes, each with its own virtual address space, and an operating system shared by those processes in a manner which is invisible to user programs. Cache "Flush" logic is used to remove selected blocks from the virtual cache when virtual addresses are to be reassigned.
