Abstract: By sequentially aligning various filtration media and delivery systems, enhanced synergistic reduction of water contaminants is obtained compared to the prior art or separate use of the individual media/filters. Specific filtration media are formulated with proper proportioning and sequencing to enhance the ability to reduce metals that cause staining, odors and bad taste such as iron, copper and manganese. Also disclosed is the reduction of potentially hazardous metal radionuclides metals such as uranium, iodine, cesium, plutonium and radium. Also disclosed is improved removal of heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, chromium, and mercury as well as organic compounds such as halogenated carcinogenic compounds. The present devices and methods remove specific bacteria and their toxins from water to reduce the risk of dermatitis. • Patent number: 6652643
Abstract: A process and compositions for improving the resistance of cementitious products such as concrete, mortar, grout, paving, paving blocks, concrete masonry units, concrete pipe, concrete blocks, cellular concrete and concrete statuary to the penetration of water utilizes a minor amount of aqueous emulsion of rosin or a waxy substance in a major amount of water to form a substantially aqueous mixture utilized as the aqueous ingredient in the preparation of the cementitious product. The composition of an aqueous emulsion of rosin or a waxy substance, water, cement and aggregate, in addition to improved resistance to the penetration of water, maintains the strength of the cementitious product and can provide a vehicle for adding property enhancing agents to the cementitious product. The composition and process improves the resistance of the products to mildew and mold and improves the early strength of the products.

  • Publication number: 20030199400
Abstract: A water-based household lubricant, free of hydrocarbon oils, comprises a water-soluble ammonium salt of a surfactant, preferably a carboxylate, sulfonate, phosphate or sarcosinate surfactant, preferably having rust preventative activity, most particularly ammonium N-oleol sarcosinate as a main or sole component. The composition also desirably contains an anti-microbial and a surface tension reducer, most preferably N-(N-octal)-2-pyrrolidone. An aqueous solution of the ammonium salt of the fatty acid surfactant, which is non-staining, is applied to a substrate, the water evaporates and ammonia from the ammonium ion is slowly released into the atmosphere leaving the surfactant as a lubricant. The residue provides rust resistance, water repellency and lubrication.

  • Patent number: 5773091
Abstract: A method for removing soiling and graffiti markings from a barrier coat previously formed on an underlying surface is provided, wherein the method preserves rather than sacrifices the barrier coat. The method includes applying a solvent system which includes at least one substantially non-toxic organic solvent such as 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone to an area of the barrier coat. A method is also provided to improve the resistance of a protective barrier coat to graffiti markings and other soiling over time and thereby facilitate any necessary cleaning of this barrier coat. The improvement in the case of wax coatings is achieved by including in the wax, at least one protective chemical agent selected from the group consisting of wax-soluble/water-insoluble UV light absorbers, wax-soluble/water-insoluble free-radical and peroxy-radical scavengers, and wax-soluble/water-insoluble wax antioxidants.

  • Patent number: 5387434
Abstract: A method of treating surfaces to facilitate removal of graffiti comprises applying a coating of anti-graffiti material to a surface to form a graffiti barrier on the surface.. The anti-graffiti material is substantially free of organic solvents and comprises a water-based material containing waxes, sodium silicate, rosins, gums or combinations thereof. To remove graffiti applied to the coated surface, the surface is power washed with heated pressurized water having a pressure greater than 250 psi, and preferably in excess of 1000 psi. The surface is power washed, as needed, to remove graffiti, and following each one, two or several power washings, the anti-graffiti material is re-applied to the surface.
