  • Patent number: 5001680
Abstract: A compliant tube baffle for use in a marine environment wherein a boxlike structure (10) is surrounded by an elastomeric cover (64) and includes a pair of beam plates (12,14) separated by suitable means such as bent plate springs (18,20) which may be engageable with elastic cushioning layers (54) adhered to side shields (52). The beam plates (12,14) may be tapered with the tapered sections (34) having curved surfaces in the form of an ellipse. Damping may be provided by piezoelectric elements (58) or by constrained layers (66) of elastomeric material stressed during flexing movement of the beam plates (12,14). The beam plates (72,74) may also be separated at the edges (84) by elongated members (78,80) of solid elastomer or members (92,94) of a laminate of elastomer and rigid material.

  • Patent number: 4863402
Abstract: Method and apparatus for making an electrical device including a contact supported in a housing having a space within which at least part of such contact may move, wherein the contact is placed with respect to a mold core that resiliently deforms the moving part of the contact to a condition it ordinarily would be expected to take during use in connection with another contact and cooperates with at least such moving part of the contact to form a composite core that is placed in a mold cavity to mold a housing about part of the contact and to at least part of the contact while the composite core defines the space within which the moving part of the contact can deform during use. An electrical connecting device is made by the aforementioned process.

  • Patent number: 4725243
Abstract: A cable termination assembly with an integral polarizing key, and method of molding the same, includes an electrical cable including at least one conductor, at least one electrical contact, a support body for at least preliminarily supporting the electrical contact, the electrical contact having an insulation displacement connection portion, a contacting portion, and an offset between said portions, and the support body having a land for cooperating with the offset to support the electrical contact during insulation displacement connection connecting of the insulation displacement connection portion to such conductor. Part of the electrical contact and the support body cooperate during the mentioned molding to effect a shut off function blocking flow of molding material of the strain relief into an area of the support body where the contacting portion is located. Molding material fills a cell of the support body during molding of the strain relief body to form a polarizing key.

  • Patent number: 4670165
Abstract: A method of treating a subterranean formation comprising contacting the formation with an aqueous composition of desired viscosity. The aqueous composition is prepared by polymerizing water-soluble monomers in an aqueous solvent with a free radical initiator comprising a reduction-oxidation couple between cobaltous amine complex and an alkali metal or ammonium salt of peroxydisulfate.

  • Patent number: 4518506
Abstract: There is disclosed, in one aspect, a method for treating the upper layer of a body of water to effect a chemical and/or physical change within this upper layer. This method comprises placing a composition comprising an expanded silicate aggregate, such as a boron-containing silicate aggregate, which is impregnated with at least one treating agent such as a herbicide, onto the surface of a body of water, such as a lake, and allowing the composition to float upon the surface for a sufficient period of time to effect the chemical and/or physical change. In another aspect, there is disclosed a composition useful for treating the upper layer of a body of water to effect a chemical and/or physical change. This composition comprises a mixture of the expanded silicate aggregate and at least one treating agent which, when applied in the appropriate concentration and for the appropriate time period, will effect the desired chemical change within the upper layer of the body of water.
