  • Patent number: 5245998
Abstract: A treatment system includes a vaporizer, a tent for maintaining a high humidity environment in a chamber around at least the upper body of an individual under treatment, and a flexible conduit from the vaporizer to the chamber. The tent includes a supporting framework and a porous fabric supported by the framework. The fabric, preferably a polyester tricot, consists of multifilament strands woven to provide a porosity of about fifty percent. So constructed, the fabric is air permeable, yet tends to block a substantial percentage of moisture droplets suspended in the air, thereby increasing the relative humidity inside the therapy tent to a value substantially above ambient relative humidity, for example over ninety percent while ambient levels outside the tent remain at about fifty percent. As a result, a therapeutic, high humidity environment is maintained about the patient, without the need for oxygen supplies, pumps, blowers or other special equipment.

  • Patent number: 5230110
Abstract: A mattress overlay cushion including three distinct zone sections with the intermediate zone section extending a greater distance longitudinally than the other two zone sections. Each zone section has a convoluted surface with a protuberance arrangement distinct from that of the others. A first and a second zone section feature a plurality of rounded peaks. Rounded peaks in the first zone are arranged in a plurality of transversely extending rows of individual peak members separated by valleys with the rounded peaks in each transversely extending row being offset transversely with respect to a longitudinally adjacent row. A plurality of peak members in the second zone are arranged in sets with each of the peak members within a particular set are joined at a base portion in a region above a maximum depth of the valleys such that adjoined peak members extend diagonally within each set. Thus, valleys are transversely positioned between adjacent sets of diagonally extending adjoined peak members.

  • Patent number: 5134735
Abstract: A single layer mattress cushion formed of a common material throughout and having three distinct convoluted zones arranged along its length. The first zone is specifically configured for supporting the shoulder and head area of a person while the middle zone is specifically formed for supporting the torso area of a person and the third zone is specifically formed for supporting the feet and lower leg portion of a person. Each of the cushion's three separate sleep areas has a different compression modulus such that the middle zone provides a maximum dual level peak support for the torso area while the first zone section provides a mid-range support function to the head and shoulders of the person and the third zone section provides light and well ventilated support for the legs and feet of the user.

  • Patent number: 5082705
Abstract: A carpet underlay is described which consists of a cushion layer having a scrim layer attached to its undersurface by a solvent adhesive. The upper layer also has a solvent adhesive applied thereto and a double adhesive coated film is securely affixed to the cushion surface by the solvent adhesive layer and the adhesive on the film. A release film is disposed above the upper layer of the double adhesive coated film.

  • Patent number: 4898166
Abstract: A controller for self-refilling resuscitation enclosures has a pair of arms pivotable between open and closed positions, an inside strap fixed to both arms, and an outside strap fixed to one arm. The outer strap can be releasably coupled at any one of a series of locations along the other arm, to selectively limit the amount of resuscitation bag recovery and thereby adjustably control the expansion or recovery volume of the enclosure. The straps, along with portions of the arm inside surfaces, maintain a contiguous wrapping engagement about the resuscitation enclosure throughout its compression and expansion, to positively secure the enclosure. The arms afford a mechanical advantage to reduce user fatigue, and provide for the tactile sensing of lung compliance during resuscitation.

  • Patent number: 4695954
Abstract: A system, apparatus and method for dispsensing medications prescribed by a doctor or other medical personnel. A portable memory device (such as a magnetic card) is used to store data representing prescription information. Prescription information is encoded into the memory device by a programming device located in a pharmacy. A container having a plurality of individual compartments is filled at the pharmacy with medications in accordance with the prescription information. The portable memory device and filled container are transported together to a medication dispenser located near a patient. The dispenser includes apparatus which reads the prescription information from the memory device and makes medications within the individual compartments available to the patient only at prescribed times. The medication dispenser also includes apparatus for monitoring whether or not the patient is complying with the prescribed medication schedule. Patient compliance information is stored within the memory device.
