  • Publication number: 20200289974
Abstract: Embodiments of methods and associate system for removing acid gas from a sour gas stream are provided. The method includes (1) passing the sour gas stream in a counter-flow arrangement with an encapsulated phase change material and a lean amine based sorbent liquid configured to absorb the acid gas from the sour gas stream in an absorber; (2) separating the rich amine based sorbent liquid and the encapsulated phase change material; (3) passing the rich amine based sorbent liquid to an amine regenerator wherein the rich amine based sorbent liquid is heated to release the absorbed sour gas and regenerate the lean amine based sorbent liquid; and (4) passing the encapsulated phase change material and the regenerated lean amine based sorbent liquid through a cooler to reduce the temperature of the encapsulated phase change material such that the phase change material in the encapsulated phase change material solidifies.

  • Patent number: 10703644
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a method for producing a treated water stream. The method includes receiving a feed stream including at least one substance dissolved in a water phase, and processing the feed water stream in a plurality of stages arranged in operation from a lowest temperature and pressure to a highest temperature and pressure, to produce the treated water stream and a concentrated stream. Each stage includes a vessel, a heat exchanger, an evaporator, and a condenser. Each evaporator is configured to evaporate an amount of water using one of direct heat or indirect heat. Each condenser is configured to condense at least a portion of steam generated by a successive stage. In accordance with various embodiments, the plurality of stages is arranged in series. In other embodiments, the plurality of stages is arranged in parallel.

  • Patent number: 10597313
Abstract: Chlorination-assisted coagulation processes and systems are disclosed for removing organic and inorganic contaminants from aqueous compositions and streams such as produced water generated by petroleum production operations. The chlorination-assisted coagulation process includes converting at least a portion of chloride ions in the aqueous composition to hypochlorite ions or hypochlorous acid by passing an electric current through at least a portion of the aqueous composition under anaerobic conditions, the aqueous composition including the chloride ions, iron (II) compounds, and one or more organic compounds. The chlorination-assisted coagulation process further includes reacting at least a portion of the iron (II) compounds of the aqueous composition with the hypochlorite or hypochlorous acid to produce iron (III) ions, and coagulating the one or more organic compounds with the iron (III) ions to produce a plurality of insoluble solid particles in a treated aqueous composition.

  • Patent number: 10525415
Abstract: Systems and methods for processing produced water containing organic compounds include a processing vessel; a filtration layer including a filtration material; and a cleaning system that provides a washing solution to the filtration material during a cleaning cycle. The filtration layer is configured such that at least a portion of produced water that enters the processing vessel during a processing cycle of the processing system passes through the filtration layer before leaving the processing vessel. The filtration material is a metal compound such as a metal hydroxide or a metal oxyhydroxide that is substantially insoluble in aqueous solution. The washing solution includes a reagent capable of reducing the metal compound to a reduced compound soluble in aqueous solution while not decomposing the organic compounds. The organic compounds such as crude oil may be recovered from the filtration layer material after the cleaning cycle, and the filtration layer may be regenerated.
