  • Patent number: 8113621
Abstract: An inkjet printer has a body mounting first and second gear assemblies. The first assembly cooperating with a motor gear and having a code feature. The second assembly rotatably cooperating with the first assembly and a capper for capping a printhead. The code feature cooperates with a holding feature of a mounting arrangement used to mount the second assembly so that the cooperation maintains the first assembly at a predetermined position during the mounting of the second assembly. The first assembly has first and second gears connected by a common shaft. The first gear meshes with the motor gear and the second gear meshes with the second assembly. The second assembly has a third gear mounted to the body by a pin which meshes with the second gear. The third gear is an eccentric gear.

  • Publication number: 20120030661
Abstract: Observation and analysis based optimization of software code is disclosed. An expected value is chosen for a dynamic attribute that cannot be determined, prior to execution of the associated software code, to be guaranteed to have that expected value at runtime. An optimized version of the software code is generated, including one or more optimizations based on an assumption that the dynamic attribute will have the expected value. Non-exhaustive examples of a dynamic attribute include a variable type; a location in memory; a location in which a global object, property, or variable is stored; the contents of a global function or method; and a value of a global property or variable. A check is performed during execution of the optimized version of the software code, prior to executing the portion that has been optimized based on the assumption, to verify that the dynamic attribute has the expected value.

  • Publication number: 20120030653
Abstract: Techniques for processing source code written in a traditionally interpreted language such as JavaScript, or another dynamic and/or interpreted language, are disclosed. In one example, compiled code associated with the source code is constructed and executed. An assumption on which a specific aspect of the compiled code is based (e.g., an optimization) is tested at a checkpoint of the compiled code. A roll over to fallback code is performed if the test indicates the assumption is not true.

  • Publication number: 20120030659
Abstract: Techniques for processing computer code are disclosed. In one example, an indication that a computer code is to begin execution at a portion of code other than a starting portion of the code is received, and a runtime state associated with the portion of the code at which execution is to begin is constructed. In some examples, execution of the portion of code is initiated. In some examples, a program counter associated with the portion of the code is used to initiate execution of the code. In some examples, the computer code comprises a fallback code associated with a previously executing code.

  • Publication number: 20120025432
Abstract: A method for making a ceramic body, the method including: mixing inorganic ceramic-forming ingredients to form a batch; adding a rapidly hydratable cellulosic binder and a liquid vehicle to the batch and further mixing to form a plasticized mixture; extruding the plasticized mixture to form a green body. The green body can then be heated sufficiently to produce a predominant ceramic phase, thereby transforming the green body into the ceramic body.

  • Publication number: 20120019808
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring specular reflectance of a sample is provided including a light source for transmitting a beam of light at an angle of incidence onto a surface of a sample; a polarising filter comprising a wire grid that avoids a need for collimation of the incident beam of light; a sample holder for mounting the sample; and a detector assembly for detecting a beam of light which is specularly reflected from a surface of the sample; wherein the sample holder and detector assembly are mounted for relative movement, such that the light source, the detector assembly and the sample holder are relatively positionable for a specularly reflected component of a transmitted light beam to be detected for different angles of incidence of the light beam.

  • Patent number: 8099973
Abstract: An environmental control system for conditioning air in a vehicle compartment, such as an aircraft cabin. Cool expanded higher-pressure air from a turbine is mixed with recirculated warmer, lower pressure air from the compartment. The air is mixed and recirculated by a jet pump which includes an inlet section, an outlet section, a diffuser section and a mixing section. The mixing section includes a plurality of separate mixing chambers. The diffuser section includes diffusers for receiving mixed gases from each of the mixing chambers. The outlet section receives the mixed gases which are then conveyed to the compartment. The inlet section includes for each of the mixing chambers, a primary nozzle for introducing the higher-pressure air into a respective mixing chamber, and a secondary nozzle for introducing the lower pressure air to a respective mixing chamber.

  • Patent number: 8100021
Abstract: A tensile testing machine has a jaw which includes a unitary ‘H’ section member having a cross piece and two uprights. The cross piece is mounted to a cantilever beam which is supported on said test machine and has force measuring elements. A pneumatic actuator applies tensile forces to the first ends of the jaw via strands to urge the first ends apart. When first ends of the uprights are urged apart, their oppositely disposed second ends are urged together to grip a sample deposit to be pulled off a substrate in a tensile test. In use, the jaws can be moved at speed, in the order of 500 mm/s to pull the deposit off of the substrate. The force required to pull the deposit off the substrate in this tensile test is measured by the force measuring elements on the beam.
