  • Patent number: 5285043
Abstract: A multiple-electrode spot welding apparatus has the inner ends of the electrode shanks disposed in a bed of small ball bearings in such a manner that when the electrode tips contact a workpiece, any uneven pressure applied by one of the electrodes moves the other electrodes to equalize the pressure applied by all electrodes. In another embodiment of the invention, the ends of each pair of electrode shanks have semi-spherical ends seated on a small tilt plate. The mid-section of the small tilt plate is seated on a small ball which, in turn, is seated on another larger tilt plate. The larger tilt plate is seated on a larger ball in such a manner that any imbalance in the pressure of certain electrode tips contacting the workpiece, causes the other electrode tips to move to balance the pressure of all the electrodes. A third embodiment uses a single ball mechanism to make a dual electrode fixture self-adjusting.

  • Patent number: 5217191
Abstract: A system of pipe hangers or the like for supporting various fluid bearing pipes and conduits which are exposed to the elements and extend along the rooftops of buildings. The hangers include a foundation of pre-cast reinforced concrete using reinforcing bars and tubular goods. The concrete base is seated on an isolation pad which is adhered to the roof without the use of nails or other fasteners penetrating the roof. The concrete base includes tubular inserts cast in the base which provide ready assembly of the bracket supporting the yoke and roller portion of the yoke pedestal or the studs for yokeless pedestal. The pipe hangers are adjustable to accommodate the need for leveling and weight distribution for equalizing the roof loading. In another embodiment, the pipe hangers include brackets for supporting accessories such as conduits and clamps.

  • Patent number: 5193257
Abstract: An improved apparatus for the speedy and efficient repair of tubes contained in a furnace boiler waterwall is disclosed. Disclosed are a milling machine used to mill the elongated slots, and drill and saw fixtures to aid in cutting away the damaged tube section. The improved apparatus enhances the precision and uniformity with which boiler tube repairs may be made, increases access to perform internal welds in boiler tubes and permits some prefabrication of necessary repair parts, thus reducing furnace down time for repair.

  • Patent number: 5132996
Abstract: A linear detector selectively detects successive line images from different angles while the linear detector and a radiation source are rotated about a patient. Radiation-transmission images are generated and detected and converted to computer-grabbed images by a computer which acquires, processes, stores and reconstructs the images. A visual monitor display reconstructs video images including a planar image and tomographic images representing sections orthogonal to the planar image. Selectively-positionable field-delineating lines corresponding to intersectional outlines between a simulation beam and the planar image are overlaid on the planar image. Beam-delineating lines are updated by the computer to correspond to intersectional outlines as the field-delineating lines are positioned.

  • Patent number: 5014290
Abstract: A simulation/generation/verification system for blocker patterns and blockers for use in radiation therapy comprises a fluoroscopic simulator apparatus, a computer system for acquisition and processing of fluoroscopic images, a manual input device for superposing blocker pattern outlines onto such images, display and storage devices for such images, apparatus for automatic cutting of blocker contour templates, blocker patterns and blockers, and apparatus for verification thereof. The system also facilitates acquisition of compensator contours and generation of corresponding compensator filters for incorporation with blockers. The system facilitates simulation, generation, and verification of blocker patterns or blockers per se in one substantially continuous procedure that minimizes intervening manual steps, while a patient is aligned within the system during an uninterrupted session.

  • Patent number: 4979294
Abstract: An improved method for the speedy and efficient repair of tubes contained in a furnace boiler waterwall involves milling an elongated slot at each end of a damaged tube section in a water wall, which section is thereafter cut away and replaced with a replacement tube section having elongated slots milled at each end which are cut to mate to existing tubes. The replacement tube section and existing tubes are aligned to form elongated slots through which interior welds are made to secure the replacement tube section. The elongated slots are then closed with covers cut from a second section of replacement tubing, and the water wall web is attached to the replacement tube section to complete the repair. Also disclosed are a milling machine used to mill the elongated slots, and drill and saw fixtures to aid in cutting away the damaged tube section.

  • Patent number: 4870566
Abstract: A communications concentrator and message multiplexer featuring direct access from the communications adapters to main memory via direct memory access means which eliminates the usual scanner or polling facility in a concentrator or multiplexer is described. A control microprocessor manages the allocation of memory, the conversion of message protocols and the servicing of interrupts to a plurality of port interface adapter microprocessors. The interface adapter microprocessors directly set up and control the DMA operation instead of having the DMA operation controlled by the control processor. One of the port adapters serves as a service adapter over a dedicated interface allowing a remote disgnostician access to internal registers in the control processor system, access to a dedicated read only storage for servicing, and logical interface to the main control processor for the purpose of entering instructions and directing functional operations to test each component of the system.
