Patent number: 5316641Abstract: An internal corrosion prevention anode device and method for retrofitting an existing fuel storage tank of the type having one or more low points, includes inserting an anode through an opening formed in the top of the tank. The anode is formed having a rounded shape so that it will roll to a low point in the storage tank. An elongated electrical conductor is attached to the anode, which conductor has a sufficient length for extending from the top to the bottom of the inside of the tank and has sufficient flexibility to permit the anode to roll to a low point in the tank. A cap closes the opening in the top of the tank and electrically connects the elongated conductor from the anode to the top of the storage tank.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1992Date of Patent: May 31, 1994Assignee: Robert L. Patent number: 5002645Abstract: Described is a method of separating and recovering metal values from a waste stream containing metal hydroxides comprising the steps of providing an aqueous waste stream containing metal values including chromium; subjecting the waste stream to an oxidation process to convert the chromium to chromium (VI); precipitating the other metal values in the aqueous stream by adjusting the pH of the stream to cause the precipitations; and separately recovering the chromium (VI) from the remaining metal values. The process described pertains to separating and recovering metal values such as those from an electroplating process or an electroless process wherein the metals may be iron, cobalt, zinc, cadmium, nickel, copper, silver, aluminum and chromium. The chromium recovery step is performed by oxidizing chromium (III) to chromium (VI) preferably in the presence of a manganese catalyst and preferably utilizing ultrasound waves. The remaining metal values are separated by the use of a chelating ion exchange resin.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1989Date of Patent: March 26, 1991Assignee: Saginaw Valley State UniversityInventors: George W. Patent number: 4885883Abstract: Corner joiner units for connecting standard two-by-four lumber and the manner of making structures from these is depicted. The corner units are of plastic and have two horizontal sleeves for receiving horizontal two-by-fours and at least one vertical sleeve for receiving the butt end of a vertical two-by-four. The plastic unit includes internal walls and internal openings between the sleeves, so that each two-by-four received in the horizontal sleeves is in direct wood-to-wood contact with approximately half of the butt surface of the vertical two-by-four, so as to directly transfer vertical forces there between, without the joiner unit being subject to such vertical forces. Several variations of such joiner units are disclosed for different types of corners, as is a framework made from such members and two-by-fours.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1988Date of Patent: December 12, 1989Inventor: Robert L. Wright
